2500 Competitive. Back to Fantasy!
« on: Aug 04, 2012, 06:01:44 PM »
6th has gotten my attention, no doubt... but I am not out of fantasy.  I am working on a 2500pt list for a tourney, so lemme know whatcha think

Slaughtermaster: Lvl 4 Maw, Glittering Scales, Dispel Scroll,  Greedy Fist, XHW
Firebelly: Lvl 2, 4+ Ward, GW
BSB: Warrior Bane, Dragonhelm, Crown of Command, Ironfist
11 Ironguts: Standard of Discipline, Muso
7 Bulls: Full Command (BSB and firebelly here)
Trappers
2 cats
Ironblaster
3 Mournfang: Dragonhide Banner, Muso
3 Mournfang: Muso only
4 Leadbelchers

Am I missing anything glaring?  I feel like I could do more, maybe Maneaters or a Stonehorn instead of the second unit of Mournfang?   Lemme know!

Looks pretty good just a couple of minor things:

1) Are the Mournfangs equipped with Heavy Armor and Ironfists? If not I would drop the second unit of 3 to get upgrades and maybe some extra Ogre Bulls.

2) The Leadbelchers really should have a musician, Fast-Reform + 4D6 shots with no penalty for moving and shooting is amazing for taking out flying misdirectors like eagles and harpies.

3) You may want to consider 4 and 2 for your MFC setup, this way you have one heavy hitter and one support rather than 2 in-between units. I personally don't like 3 because people tend to shoot/magic off 1 model before you make contact and if they don't, so much the better!

4) You might want to try a different build on the Firebelly: I usually don't give him a Ward Save, instead I give him the Potion of Speed or the Golden Sigil Sword (High I means you're breathing before the enemy gets to attack which is all of the Firebelly's damage anyway). You can save some points to here to get some points for more Bulls or Ironfists on them.

Nice list and I hope this stuff helps,
Triddion

Oh sorry, yeah, the Mournfang are kitted out for armor.  Belchers have a muso too.  Only way to run either IMO!

Thanks for the rest of the advice.  Will give it a whirl.  The higher I on the Firebelly is a good idea.

You also want full command on your Ironguts if you're planning on sticking the SM in there.  -1 to hit is nice, but it's not enough to make the SM front-line material.  And I'd definitely toss the 4++ on the Firebelly.  If you want to put something on him, give him the Hellheart instead.  I'd also put the Rock Eye on your SM.  Always helps to know what you're throwing your ogres into.

And I'm not sure if Trid was being unclear, or just brain-farted (since he's the one who called ME on this when I first hit the boards).  Your Firebelly's breath attack happens at his initiative, regardless of his weapon's effects.  So the golden sigil sword may allow the FB to hit at I10, but he does his breath attack at I2.  Only the potion of speed changes when he does his breath attack.  A sceond thing to know with him is that he can't do a breath attack from the second rank, so you'll have to make-way with him at the beginning of combat to breath.

I agree that a unit of 4 MFC is better than 3, but I think you should drop one unit all-together and try to squeeze in a second Ironblaster.  Those things are just SO MUCH better when fielded in pairs.

The Gold Sigil Sword doesn't work for the purposes of increasing your I value for the breath attack. In the rules it states only attacks made from the sword are at I10. Pot of speed should be fine though.

Looks like a good list. Most of the changes I'd make have already been covered by Triddion and Nihmwit.
