Impact hits, flaming attacks and regen
« on: Jul 29, 2012, 05:16:19 PM »
Hi all,

Couple of odd queries popped up recently when playing against DoC:

My mournfangs with flaming banner and a unit of 6 bulls hit my foe's horde of plaguebearers with herald, front and flank.
I resolved my impact hits with mournfangs first and bulls second.

So here's the issue - do impact hits benefit from flaming attacks? I'm guessing yes as the BRB states they are an unusual close combat attack and the flaming rule states that close combat attacks benefit from this rule.

If my mournfang impacts deal wounds will that mean that my bull's impacts ignore the regen even though the attacks are simultaneous? This would also be applicable for the ensuing rounds of combat.

Thoughts?

Flaming impact hits. All happen at the same time so they get regen from the bulls. Then it's gone.
Stomps, however, aren't flaming (iirc).

This is correct.  In the BRB FAQ there is a statement that stomps never benefit from special rules, and vice versa.

Yup, its why the Firebelly's impact hits are some important.

And this also is what gives Scragg's Impact hits Killing Blow :o

Yeah your pretty much on the right lines here. As mentioned before Impact hits are simultaneous so impact hits will have regen saves but everything else (except stomps) is fair game. Flaming attacks negate regen saves for the entirety of that phase. So if we use your example and you issue the MFC flaming impact hits this then removes the regen saves from that unit for that entire combat phase. During the next phase it is restored so with that in mind it is beneficial to have your flaming impact hits to allow some serious whomping on the  enemy whilst their defenses are down later in the fight.

How about a potion of strength on a Firebelly? An automatic S7 flaming attack is a sure thing when removing regen. Maybe it costs too much? Additional hand weapon + potion of speed is better perhaps?

Yeah, the only really important deal is that he go before the unit he's with. So if he's with IGs then XHW is fine. Assuming the Impact hit doesn't negate it that round.

4 Str4 attacks should cause a wound to most things with Regen so the IGs have a clear path for smashing.
