The Sons of the Fire Mouth
« on: Jul 16, 2012, 08:21:17 PM »
Hey guys, I thought I would start a Gnoblog for some motivation as I am quite a slow painter and to get some criticism. My Ogre tribe, The Sons of the Fire Mouth, is lead by a Firebelly as they are a fire tribe living on the lower slopes of the Fire Mouth.

Here is an Irongut. Within my eventual 2400 point army list I will have seventeen Ironguts in my army list.

Looks like a really good start!

I really like the detail on the thundertusk. the teeth and bone on the howdah look fantastically layered and the fur on the ttusk is very nicely done.

constructive criticism: the ironguts have a very good scheme with vibrant colors and a good aesthetic, I'm not sure if the pictures don't do it justice, or if it is such a subtle shading that a camera can't bring it to life but I think another layer or shading could really bring the skin tones alive, from the picture they look rather uniform.
Same thing for the golds on them.

Keep up the good work! keep on gnobloggin!

I completely second fedje's sentiments... A very good start, and I particularly like your colour scheme. The work you've done on your Thundertusk is superb.

I would also echo the comment on the bronze armour though. It is a fantastic colour, and compliments the skin and clothing. However, perhaps a trick of the light, but it looks a little too bright, and could perhaps benefit from a shade or two to tone it back?

Keep up the great work though :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

I agree with fedje on all points. The thundertusk looks really good, and i feel that the Ironguts need more shading. Maybe even just a wash over all the metallics could help. I know Gryphon Sepia works well on gold without loosing that vibrance that gold has. Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil would give it a more dull  worn out look.

But either way your doing a great job on these ogres! Keep it up.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'll try and change the Ironguts but maybe it's because the photo was taken on an iPad. The Thundertusk and Ogre beast riders are now finished so I'll upload a picture of them in the next few days.

Thanks,

I figured that it may in fact be the photo, and not the models :) Can't wait for the photos of the completed Thundertusk.

Looks good.

You should consider thinning down your metallics. They look a bit thick and could probably use some shading. I generally will shade with badab black on the iron/steel parts and devlan mud on bronze. I use red wash on golds.
