Ogres and Ranks

As you all know the lack of ranks makes the Ogres somewhat ineffective against units that can withstand a charge.  Thus staying power becomes an issue with our poor initiative.  Some people believe that giving Ogres rank bonuses for 3 models would be beneficial.  I tend to agree, hoewever, I like the following:

When an Ogre Unit Charges and causes 2 or more impact wounds, the affected unit loses it's rank bonuses for the remainder of the combat.  This represents the Ogres ability to crash into the unit, create havoc, and disrupt their cohesion.  

Just a thought.  I'd be interested in hearing what people think.  pb

way too powerful. we get impact hits to try and give us more of a chance of breaking our enemies. if they had this rule aswell there wouldnt be any contest. i kill on average 2 models with a bull charge. if this took away the enemies rank bonus the unit would break so easily. i can see where your going fluff wise cos i can imagine it happening but in game terms its just too powerful and would tip combats severly in our favour. mabye given to a magic standard but the cost would be 100pts + i think.

If you want to have a rule like that I'd suggest something like this:

A unit charged by a unit of ogres, and who suffer atleast two wounds (after saves) from bull charge can no longer claim the +1 combat resolution bonus from outnumbering due to the havoc and chaos created by the thunderous charge of the ogres. For all other purposes of outnumbering the unit can still claim the bonus if they indeed have a higher unit strength (ie. no autobreaking because of fear etc.).

Yeah, something like that..

I think the first suggestion was a bit overpowered, yes... I'd go for Metheon's suggestion instead.

Apart from being arbitrary and rather silly (three ogres will cause confusion, but six cavalry will not?), Ogres who get Bull charge tend to do well enough in any case and not need any boosts.
