Golgfag Maneater

Golgfag's Ostland Prowlers
« on: Jun 29, 2012, 06:26:50 PM »
Introduction
Hey I'm new to OK so I thought creating a Gnoblog would be some fun to kinda narrate what im doing lol.

Background
So basically my army revolves around Golgfag's Maneaters, who have travelled around the world plundering loot and have now come to Ostland, the province of the Empire where Ogres are common sights. Golgfag and his maneaters began gathering up forces and soon he will have enough military might to sample all the tastes of the Warhammer World.
Paint Scheme

I will be painting my ogres in a fairly humanoid skin tone.
Armour/Weapons will be painted to appear rusty.
Clothing will be coloured in the Black/White colours of Ostland.

Army So Far and Plans for the Future

Golgfag Maneater (Leader of my army for now and a main part of my Armies theme)

Slaughtermaster/Butcher (I plan to add an extra one eventually but this will do fine for now)

Bruiser BSB (Still a WIP but he's nearly ready)

6 Bulls (planned to add another unit and expand atleast one to a size of 8 or higher)

6 Ironguts (planned to increase size to 9)

5 Leadbelchers

2 Maneaters (Third one coming atcha as soon as I get some pieces I ordered off ebay)
(Planned to expand to 6)

2 Mournfang Cavalry (planned to expand to 4 or 6)

Thundertusk (I'm gonna try getting my grubby hands on a Stonehorn aswell as soon as I can)

First 4 Ironguts Painted

Just uploaded these on August 13th(2012) although they've been painted for a while now, constructive criticism would be nice but please be aware I'm still a noob at painting lol  :P

Okay so I had my first game today against a friend who plays Dark Elves. We played a game of 1150 pts.
(a weird number yes) It was a fairly even game for the beginning, but after the second turn it began to go in my favour. My leadbelchers shot stuff up, my ironguts cut up some Witch Elves and the Bulls crushed many Dark Elves in their wake. My Mournfang spent the whole game playing Hide-and-Go-Seek with a large unit of Cold One Knights.(effectively keeping them busy) The leadbelchers who I had headlong charged into a large block of Dark Elf Spearmen where quick to begin losing, although took down a few spearmen with them, only one leadbelcher survived the swirling melee but he passed his break test and got me the "Rambo or Conan?" achievement. Although in the next CC phase he was ripped to pieces. At the end of the battle I had wiped out every Dark Elf on the board and lost only 4 Leadbelchers, 3 Bulls, 2 Ironguts and I had Golgfag and a Mournfang both take two wounds.

From this battle I got the following achievements:

1. Gettin Started (play first game with the new ogre army book)
28. Win a game vs Dark Elves
47. I'm Special(Field any one special named character)
86. Rambo or Conan?(have a lone ogre lose a combat but pass his break test.)
97. Billy No-Mates (Field an army with only one character in it. He cannot join a unit. Bonus if he survives)

Bragg makes a good BSB, head ove to my blog to see how I did mine -

Cool theme too. Golfag is cool and theming an entire army around him is a great idea.

Looking forward to seeing how it all shapes up.

Its been nearly a month since I've updated my gnoblog due to me being busy with many things, well just to start off, I just recently played my second game with my Ogres, this game I used the new Gnoblars I made as well as using Golgfag as a normal Tyrant for 1500 pts game against the same Dark Elf player as last time, he revised his list quite  bit for this game and he did much better off this game, but in the end I made it with a Minor Victory. It was quite a fun game as my Tyrant butchered everything in his path and my 12 gnoblars managed to wipe out some Dark Elf Warriors.

By the end of the game I got the following two Achievements:

3. Brace for impact! - During a game, an ogre unit successfully charges and rolls 10+ on the dice
4. I'm in charge! - play a game with the new book using a tyrant in your army

@Mr_Griz Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you like the idea :D
and although i love the idea and look of your BSB made from Bragg I'm not sure if I want to do it myself do to the fact I don't really want to buy Bragg being a $50 mini and all, but if I ever do I'l give it a try  ;)

Well first and foremost I must update more frequently, although being summer and all I've been quite lazy and I actually just got back from a vacation to Nova Scotia. I have finally gotten around to playing another game and this time against high elves. It was a fun game and was a rather even match up as we continually pummeled each other in the 1250 pnt game, i found out this game how badly Swordsmasters of
Hoeth can hurt, as they tore through a unit of 6 Ogre Bulls. My mournfang did a good job at crushing the Elven cavalry but this was short lived as they were assailed by the combined might of an Elven Mage and a Repeater Bolt Thrower only to be in turn crushed by Golgfag leading his Ironguts. This game was a close one, it was nearly a tie but we agreed that in the end it was in my favour so we considered it a minor victory on my end.  :D
New Achivements Earned:
6. look what we can do! - have a mournfang rider successfully parry an attack
(The look on my opponents face when i passed both my parry saves for my mournfang when he thought he had finally killed one in the combat against his Dragon Princes)
20. One for the cauldron - paint an ogre model and post it on the stronghold
(earned today as i finally uploaded my ironguts onto the site)
26. Win a game using ogres vs. High elves
(although only a minor victory, still a win i guess XD)
60. Overpowered! - win 3 games in a row with your ogre army.
(this was close almost had to start his one from scratch lol(gotta say this was a much more challenging person to play against then the dark elf player lol))

Today I was happy to hear from my independant retailer down the street that my Thundertusk kit and Ogre Bulls kit had come in. So I soon went to work on converting some of my new ogres into the following:

-A Thunderfist for my Leadbelchers
-My Bruiser BSB (still needs some small work though)
-A Butcher
-2 Maneaters (with a third one in need of a piece I'm waiting to recieve from ebay)

So heres the few achievements I got from assembling these.

8. That's huge! - build a stonehorn or thundertusk model
(My first expression when shifting through the sprues was "holy sh*t that IS huge!")
38. Convert one of the new range of ogre models
(plenty of conversions going on this time 'round)

Also heres some unpainted pictures of my Maneaters take note that I suck at green stuff so I'm kinda avoiding it for now...

Front View, the one on the right is an Imperial Maneater and also the Unit Champion of the Maneaters, wielding two hand weapons.

Side View, the other Maneater is a Black Orc variant and also the Bellower of the Maneaters wielding a great weapon.

Rear View, the third Maneater I have planned will be either a Cathay themed or Skaven themed Standard Bearer with the plan of having him wielding two hand weapons with the banner strapped to his back.

Constructive Criticism would be appreciated  :)
and also I realize I still need to clean off those mold lines and such so no need to remind me lol XD

So I played a game with my two friends I've played other times and we played a 2000 pnt game where a coalition of an 1000 pnt Dark Elves and 1000 pnt High Elves army fought against my Ogre army.
The army I used was as follows:

Golgfag Maneater         (rolled a measily 3 for for point allowance) Dispell Scroll, Potion of Speed
Slaughtermaster Lvl 4,  Additional Hand Weapon and the Hellheart
6 Ogres                        Full Command, Additional Hand Weapon, Look-out Gnoblar
6 Ironguts                    Full Command, Look-out Gnoblar
10 Gnoblars                  Gnoblar Trappers
5 Leadbelchers              Thunderfist
3 Maneaters   Heavy Armour, Full Command, Look-out Gnoblar, Additional Hand Weapon(1),Great Weapons(2)
2 Mournfang                  Ironfists, Heavy Armour, Standard, Crusher
Thundertusk

This game i learned the deadly effect of spells targeting ogres low initiative, as this game proceeded I found my Mournfang get cut down by Dragon Princes, and my Ironguts get ravaged by a Pit of Shades. My maneaters cut through the dark elf side of the table as their S7 Great Weapons tore chunks out of cold one Knights and Spearmen alike. My Thundertusk stormed up the center of the table as a wall of Leadbelchers and Gnoblars kept it out of harms way and still allowing it to spray firepower everywhere. An Ogre contingent led by my Slaughtermaster was quick to tear through a weak point in the coalition lines while buffed with many spells cast by the Slaughtermaster. By the end of this game none were left standing but a unit of 4 Ogres led by a slaughtermaster, an badly injured but Victorious Golgfag in the far left flank and a thundertusk which had been taken down to 3 wounds.
All in all a fun game, and learned some new stuff about the ogres :D

On another note here's the list of achievements I earned this game:

2. Going Large - Play a game of warhammer of over 2000 points using the new ogre book

9. Sigh! - lose more than 3 ogres to any one casting of a spell that involved you taking an initiative test as part of it's resolution
(This was earned when Pit of shades was cast on my ironguts killing 5/6 of the unit :( )

15. getting colder - field a thundertusk OR a unit of yhetees in your army

48. The maw! - successfully use the large template version of the maw spell to kill an enemy model
(managed to cast the large version of The Maw! not once but three times with not a single misfire)

66. OH GOD MY FACE! - Kill an enemy character with  the chaintrap from the Thundertusk.
(well this was a funny one as it came down to the final turn my opponents final hope being there lone High Elf mage had his face torn off by the chaintrap from the enroaching Thundertusk)
