Hi Guys,

What do you think is the most underrated item available to us (BRB and Army book)?

I've only recently started using the Dragonbane Gem. Since every army now has the Banner of Eternal flame it just such a useful item to have since a SLaughtermaster or tyrant can literally tank an entire horde with it if they have the banner! better yets - see and vil of vaul in the centre....weep with joy!

As for banners, i really like the Banner fo Swiftness - people know we can move fast - but Ogres with MV7 really surprise people! Especially since everyone seemes to assume we have the banner fo Discipline on our Ironguts!

Building on assumptions, teh Wailing Banner is great for my Irongut block! Onec again, people either assume BoDisc or when it gets too large they anticipate the Runemaw (cause the interwebz says so!)...Realising they have to pass a terror check to charge you and vice versa is brilliant and also ensures that your low leadership ogres dont peg it when charged by a big gribley.

Lastly for now, Rock Eye for it's cost, its almost not fair! To be able to stand back with my list of leaddies and ironblasters and shoot for a few turns whilst figuring out which unit is weakest is an epic use of those * points!

So, what are your most underrated items that dont seem to be in every "net list"?

Looking over the terror rules in the BRB here and I think you only cause terror checks when you charge, not when they charge you... Unless Im reading that wrong?

I'm seeing quite a lot of Rock Eyes in lists. I think the reason you don't see them in every list is because some people play with open lists, making it a 5p waste. It's an absolute must with a Death SM imo.

I agree on Banner of Swiftness. 14" march is pretty damn nice.

I currently run both Rock Eye and Banner of Swiftness. I play Heavens SM as a future-reading-comet-prophet (Dispel Scroll, WS 4+, Glittering Scales and Rock Eye) so it perfectly fits with my background. I also play the banner on my Ironguts beacause I like fast frontal assault to answer the threat of warmachines and magic.

Sword of Strike on a Tyrant. 15 pts to get 5 S5+ attacks hits many things on 2's is good.
Forbidden Rod on a Great Maw Slaughtermaster. D3 free power dices when you need it.

Ironcurse Icon. Ward save against war mahcines for an army which is pretty susceptible to war machines? Yes please. You only need to make one save the entire game to make your points back!

Banner of Swiftness and Sword of Striking I like a lot. Healing pot is one I often look at and usually scrap for some reason.

I almost never find the points to give it to anyone... I always prefer something else.

Sword of striking to a Tyrant=lot of pain for everyone, especially togheter with the Giantbreaker big name!

Enchanted shield is brilliant..

Sword of bloodshed on a giantbreaker tyrant with heavy armor, the enchated shield and the dragon bane gem and potion of speed= lots of dead things.
WS6 S6 I7 A8. Nasty stuff backed up by a 3+armor save and a 2+ against flaming attacks.

Starting to thinking that Flying Carpet on a Death Slaughtermaster could be great fun!

Turn 1, fly march to opponents flank and release the vortex of doom down their deployment line!!

IMO, the Terrifying Mask of Eee.

Place it on a character, and turn your horde into a Terror inducing rampager is good stuff. Combine with Beserking sword, and it's killing time.

Personally I'd much rather prefer a firebelly on the flying carpet. Zooming up while casting fireballs at hard to reach targets / using the breath template on an unsuspecting foe from the flank. Could cause some mayhem and won't be a huge investment like the Death SM. The Death SM would most likely have to be your general and that's too many points to risk early on imo.

That said, I'm completly on board the flying carpet. I'll most def try it on my FB next game.

I've bene contemplating a Maw caster on flying carpet a lot since he can heal his wounds back too. Give 4++ and charmed shield and he's almost impervious to canons. And things like skinks and guter runners are not that scary being immune to poison. Also since he's a support cast with that lore it makes sense to have him mobile to put the buffs where you need them.

Assuming the cannon doesn't kill him outright before you can heal up.

No, the first cannon shot is cancelled on a 2+, and then any follow on cannons are cancelled on a 4+.

Nihmwit has it, that guy is unlikely to die to cannons early and if you do manage to wound and only get 2-3 wounds, he'll prlly heal them up during the game. Plus that SM is also a great WM hunter on top of support casting!

I used a SM (level 4 death) with carpet, 4+ ward, charmed shield in my last game. 2250 vs Empire battle report is on my gnoblog. He killed himself on turn two while trying to use PS for the first time in any game.

I think it could be great. Just get to the flank or behind and go to town with death magic. You don't have to see his characters just have them in the front arc and it will be hard for him to counter without either leaving the unit or reforming.

He will be getting a second chance.

A smart opponent is just going to hit him with some other ranged attack before using the Cannon to negate the Charmed shield.

This is so true, I've had that tactic used against me for sure. Typically it's either weak higher I attacks in melee or whatever other random hit that can be allocated from afar.

I used to use the charmed shield all the time but then I took an arrow to the knee.....
