Price Increases at GW from May 28th
« on: May 23, 2012, 03:54:53 PM »
From the 28th of May 2012 a few Ogre Kingdoms items will be increasing in price at Games Workshop. I've only seen a list of US prices so far (thanks WarSeer!), so I don't yet know if there'll be increases in other parts of the world.

Here's a list of Ogre Kingdoms products affected:

Tyrant - $38 to $40
Slaughtermaster - $38 to $40
Golgfag Maneater - $38 to $40
Firebelly - $38 to $40
Bragg the Gutsman - $38 to $40
Yhetees - $49.50 to $52
Giant - $49.50 to $53.75
Ogre Kingdoms Battalion - $105 to $110
Warhammer: Ogre Kingdoms (army book) - $41.25 to $45.50

Details of other price changes can be found here.

Hmm. Part of me really doesn't know what to think of this, in terms of GW policy. I can only assume that the extra staff and resources needed for the Hobbit project have incurred this, but it seems to be becoming an annual habit and I can't honestly think why GW thinks this would be a good idea, asides from the obvious.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.

It takes the piss and I should stop buying GW toys and move on to another company.

In reality as annoying as it is it won't make a difference. I'll still buy the odd new release and mainly buy from eBay. I enjoy it too much to let it stop my hobby.

Hope there's no increase in Australia, the prices are already ridiculous.
If it looks like food an' it smells like food an' it sounds like food an' it feels like... oh what the hell, I'll just eat it an' be done with it.

My armies are Tyranids and Ogres. Yes, I was slightly hungry when I discovered the hobby.

Glad I've got everything I need for the ogres.

Does to a bind on possibly starting a 40K army though.  Was hoping to wait till the rumored new edition comes out, but with these prices might just stick with WHFB and board games (which my wife loves anyway.   :D

dont overreact too much. Its an annual price increase - just like the "cost of living" increase you (should!) get to your salary every year!

Every company addresses their prices annually to reflect market changes...

...GW just happen to be rather good at adding a lot more than inflation!

not to worry, its easy to look at the problem and moan. but who has done anything about it???? theres a simple cure-buy from one of the online shops, its cheap and easy. a good saving of around 20 percent. alternitavley in order to stop everyone complaining why dont you look at becoming a stockist for gw. you dont need a shop as such and it was only about 500 sterling to get started, of whitch you get stock for and a discount of i belive 45 percent. yes your going to moan about the start up cost but its nothing if theres 2 or three or you. a new army each and your good for discounts like that. if anyones intrested in doing it in the uk let me know as my first order is a  realm of battle and some scenery, oh and 3 or 4 of the new ork flyers

ive just called gw enquiring about being a stockist. to confirm its 500 sterling minimum order and you will recive 45 percent from the rrp plus vat. im sure if anyone would get this started you would get all the stronghold buisness from hear. its the best way to break any strangle hold gw may have on the hobby

I've had the rises confirmed by my LGS today when I went in to grab a Firebelly (at long last). I'll not be doing the new 3000pts Empire I had planned. I'll pick up bits here and there for my Ogres but 6th edition 40k looks like it's off the cards too, minimum spending from here on in. Can't justify their prices when there are other offerings out there that cost way less to get into.

I can't understand the justification for increasing the prices of the army books either. This will firmly put them into the bracket of costing the same as other companies RULEBOOKS that also contain all the faction information for the whole game...

Luckily, hydras are common enough mythological critters that there are any number of $15 action figures to replace them with  :P

Well, I already own 2 hydras so I'm ok. I also play 95% of my games at GW, so i'm a bit limited in terms of what models I can use.
