CMSheats Red Fire Ogre Tribe!
« on: May 14, 2012, 01:07:44 AM »
Hey guys!

Finally got around to creating my own Gnoblog. I am pretty busy with commissions at the moment, and will be busy for probably the rest of the month... but figured I could get this up and post what Ogres I have now. I will be posting pictures of my work, and what I have hopefully tonight sometime. Thanks, and all comments, criticisms, and thoughts are always welcome. Thank you all, and I hope you enjoy this Gnoblog!

Ok, here is just a little inside to what I am going to be painting in the (near hopefully) future. My Ogre and Lizardmen armies. I have 2 Stonehorns, 1 Stonehorn, 8ish Mourfangs, and 2 Ironblasters coming in the mail soon.(So I am not just running a army on bulls and ironguts  ;) I will post a picture once I get them... Thanks!

Ok, so here is the fire effect for my "Red Fire" tribe. (Any thoughts on the name would be greatly appreciated)
What do you guys think of it? I am not sure what color to make the Gut plate teeth..... Also, any thoughts on the skin color for my army? I was messing around with Human flesh tones, but I don't really like how the weapons and the skin go together... I was thinking something darker? Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry, can only upload 5 at a time. So here is the back of the skin... not a big fan of how it fits with the fire look.... Let me know what you guys think!

i think a darker skin tone is required....maybe something more african influenced.
Otherwise maybe a grey color similar to my rhinogres, but washed with black instead of blue?

For the maw symbol on the gut plate I think something subtle like a tin bitz (don't know the new equivalent).

As far as the gut plate, that sounds great! I will give that a try and post some new pictures. Thanks!

Oh, and one other thing.... how do I post the pictures so big? I see other guys getting huge pictures in their threads... and am not sure how to do that. Does anyone know how? Thanks!

Glad you like them! Do you like the pants the way they are? Or do you think they should be a different color? Lol, I can't make up my mind.  I am working on a Irongut right now, so I will have pics of it in the morning. (Got a break from commissions, as I am waiting for guys to get back with me about how they like their test models.... so I am making the best of the time.  ;)) Thanks!

check out the image posting guide in the butcher's cauldron for how to put the "big" pics in. I am using photobucket rather than uploading images.

I think I like the skin tone and gut plate....but overall the model is very dark.
I'd suggest grey pants with maybe a goblin green stripe. The green might give the contrast against the orange while the grey will lighten the look of the model.

Ok, thanks for the info! They really aren't to dark in person, I just haven't stuck them in my light box to take pictures. But I will have to try that. I got these guys done last night (before) I read that post. So here they are.

Leadbelcher first! Thanks, and any thoughts/comments on any of them would be appreciated!

Really like the fire theme! I agree with warlordsteve on the pants. Maybe like tan or something that can help to contrast the model (like with his skin) but still have the veins of fire be the eye grabber of the model. Keep up the good work though, can't wait to see a Firebelly!

I just got one of my Iron Blasters in!
The only problem is it did not come with the instructions of how to assemble it... does anyone have the manual? I tried putting it together by looking at the army books pictures of a Iron Blaster but I can't get it. The wheels are especially hard.. So if some good soul would not mind taking a pic or two of their instructions I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks!

Could you describe how you did the skin on that leadbelcher and irongut? It's very much the tone of skin I had in mind for my ogres.

One note of criticism: the sabretusk's leftside looks significantly better than its right side. The black areas on, most notably, his upper legs do not look very natural on that side.

Other than that: great work, keep it up.

I agree with Thom about he sabretusk. The 2nd pic looks goodas the highlight goes over the shoulder, but on the first the highlights break the leg into 2 parts making it not look natural.
Overall looking good....though i might suggest some tin bitz highlights on the leadbelcher cannon as well....I really think it'll be a good highlight colour for metal areas.

Ya... like I said, a WIP.
I was up till 12:00 last night working on these guys (Along with commissions) so I am not surprised there is such a difference between the two sides. Thank you both for the feedback on that though. I really appreciate it.

Oh sorry, missed this in the last message.

Well, it's really simple.
1) base coat the skin black
2) apply Scorched Brown to the skin (Excluding the crevices in the skin, still leave some black visible.)
3) then just put calithian brown on the scorched brown parts. (Again, showing the scorched brown underneath)

Hope that explains it well enough for you! Thanks!

I like the grey, makes it look like they are ash stained. I think the shoes would look better in black though.

It is coming along great though, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comment! Ya, I am liking the grey color to. So, tonight I will paint the shoes black and put tin bits on the metal parts of the shoes, then I think I will be pretty close to having my color scheme for my army all figured out! Thank you again for the helpful comments everyone, and I hope you all are enjoying this gnoblog!
