Question about base size changes
« on: Apr 19, 2012, 07:09:27 AM »
Curious?

Well, my question:
I have a 3 wide unit of ironguts, full command.
My second rank exists only of characters of which the level 4 is a beasts slaughtermaster.

What happens if I cast transformation on him and he becomes a big monster?
This in terms of placing, what happens to the unit and other things I may have missed.

Thanks

Cormorant on thundertusk ASL rule
Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

IIRC (my rule book was stolen) As long as his base can fit he can stand in the unit.  (like a cavalry base in a unit of orc infantry)

If he counts as a monster then he won't be allowed to join a unit anyway so just move him 1" out of the unit with the shortest route.

Character bases that can't fit nicely into a unit (orc in goblin unit) has to stand on the side of the unit.  He is still part of the unit but he is not part of any ranks.

Kinda like this:  X = character  o = unit with smaller base sizes

There is only news.  There is no good or bad.

Position him (the monster) at the side of the unit in line with the front rank, just as you would place Skrag or Goldtooth, since the monsters base size aren't compatible with standard 40mm size (they're either 50 or 100 wide). See page 98 "When footprints collide" in the brb. The spell specifically states that you may remain in the unit.

which will mean he can strike freely and have minimum attacks back at him - but you'll have to be careful to try and keep space for the model to be placed.  If you cant place it, the spell fails.

He will be moved to the side of the unit like all characters with odd base sizes.

@MaanNaam: Transformation explicitly allows characters that transform within a unit to remain within the unit. If they leave or transform outside the unit they will no longer be able to join but they can reamin attached if they wish.

They simply revert to the normal rules for odd sized bases.
