Hordes of Ogres Invading the South Coast GT
« on: Apr 09, 2012, 02:03:01 AM »
Over on TWF it's been revealed that there will be at least 21 Ogre Kingdoms armies battling on the tables of the South Coast Grand Tournament this year (many of you outside of the UK may be familiar with this Portsmouth-based tournament as it's organised by the HeelanHammer guys), meaning that it's looking like Ogres will be easily the most prominent army at the event - by the Maw, how times have changed!

Ogre Kingdoms - 21
Lizardman - 14
Vampire Counts - 14
Dark Elves - 11
Skaven - 11
Warriors of Chaos - 11
Bretonnians - 10
High Elves - 10
Daemons of Chaos - 9
The Empire - 8
Tomb Kings - 7
Wood Elves - 6
Beastmen - 5
Dwarfs - 3
Orcs and Goblins - 3
Chaos Dwarfs - 2

More people playing Ogre Kingdoms is great as far as I'm concerned (though I may be a little biased - hah!) and as the amount of 8th edition army books released increases, it'll be interesting to see if Ogres can maintain a high level of popularity on the tournament scene.

The tournament begins on the 21st of April - I'll definitely be keeping an eye on how it progresses. Best of luck to all!

Any Stronghold members attending?

The times they are a changin'. Adepticon 2011 I was the only Ogre player in the championship with a field of about 140 players.

It's good to see but I did like being the odd guy out.

There is only news.  There is no good or bad.

Couldn't agree more.  I was at Adepticon 2011 in the How You Use It tourny and will be returning again this year.  I gotta say, there was something nice about knowing that almost every ogre player back then was in it for the army and not the rules.  Probably a lot like O&G players feel.  Still, change is good.  No use reminiscing about the past when a giant  :maw: crashes down and shakes up your known world.  Besides, I love the new rules and units :)

You will be shot and your manliness shrinks when you loose a tournament, and that animosity can really destroy your life...

That is the only reason Orcs will never be popular on the tournament scene compared to other less dice surprising armies.

I'm predicting the shooting-inclined armies will perform strongly, a bunch of Leadbelchers and Maneaters can easily drop several Ironguts off a deathstar, force panic on Mournfangs and pick off kitties. From my internet rovings, they also seem to be quite the headache for several other armies, including those nasty, nasty WoC.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.

Well that means more competition for da food!
8th edition Win/loss/tie ratio: 6/1/1

First we beat 'em. Then we eat ’em.
