Bretoggia
« on: Mar 23, 2012, 05:38:47 PM »
Hello everyone, so following the advice I've been given I have finally decided to do my own Gnoblog of my Bretoggians, or Bretonnian themed Ogre Kingdoms.

The first installment are pictures of my 3/4 completed regiment of 'Ogres at Arms' (Ogres), whose command includes, Hegwog, Bearer of the Lion Standard, Fat Largar the Bellower, and Brock the Champion (they can be seen from left to right).

Over the course of this gnoblog I hope to fully flesh out my Bretoggian theme and have an army that includes -

Saint Aigulf GrailOgre (Grail Knight themed Hunter on Stonehorn and carrying a standard.)

Brack the Huntsman and his Hunting Dogs (Hunter on foot with club, crossbow and great throwing spears, and some wolves of some sort to represent his Hunting Dogs.)

Friar Tork (Butcher/Slaughtermaster converted into a Bretonnian themed Friar.)

18 (6x3) Ogres at Arms (Command - Hegwog the bearer of the Lion Standard, Fat Largar the Bellower and Brock the Champion) (Ogres, see pictures below).

18 (6x3) Bretoggian Knights (Ironguts with 11th century Knightly Bretonnian type armour).

12 (6x2) Bretoggian Archers (Leadbelchers with bolt throwers instead of cannons and Bretonnian clothing).

6 (3x2) Mournfang Cavaliers (Mournfang Cavalry with lances and shields and Bretonnian barding, clothing and armour.)

Unco Lungo the Giant (Giant.)

1 Bretoggian Trebuchet (Gnoblar Scraplauncher.)

Lots of Gnoblars who will serve the Bretoggian Ogres as peasants.

If I get through all of that then I hope to try my hand at some scenery like a castle or something.

Lastly I hope to add fluff and narrations to all of my pieces.

Gundehar,

I got to agree that your work's really nice, those Ogres-at-arms are a very characterful unit. If you find your sculpting a bit off as you wrote in Anvalous' thread  you just have to remember that given time and experience, it will improve! And that's a really good start!

Thanks for the supports everyone! I'm working on Aigulf right now. I have a narration in mind for my Ogres at Arms though, that kinda introduces how regular Ogres are recieved in Bretoggia and introduces Aigulf.

I think the short stories idea from Anvalous is really cool, if anyone has read the Bretonnia Army Book they have the 14 Great Battles of Gilles the Uniter and his Grail Companions, written in a sort of ye olde way, I would like to attempt something like that when writing about Aigulf and the founding of Bretoggia.

Yeah, on the Stonehorn I just noticed there's a spot that I completely missed thats turquoise! But I thought his skeletal armoured head came out alright otherwise, but that was my first attempt at painting a Stonehorn, I was really exicted about it, but yeah I'll be the first to admit I'm not the greatest painter either, some of it being lack of skill and probably laziness, I like to go fast and see completed regiments rather than linger on stuff and all.

Anyway I finished Brack the Huntsman today also, I dunno if I want to post it yet though, and I have no hunting dogs for him yet, I was thinking of getting some new Thunder Wolves or something.

I was thinking of working on Aigulf some more, and I had the idea of adding some Gnoblar-esqe Battle Pilgrims to the base to represent his following as a Grail Knight type Ogre.

I think I figured out how to get better quality pictures for this so...

These were my original Mournfang Cavaliers, the sculpting is pretty bad so I'm going to remove all of the dried greenstuff from them all and the riders from the Mournfang Beasts and do a better job this time.

These were my Knights, but I'm going to give them coifs and sculpt chain sleeves for them.

This is my Butcher/Slaughtermaster, I might pull all the greenstuff off him too, I dunno how careful I'll have to be because he's finecast though.

These were my archers, I'm going to have to pull them apart and sculp peasant clothing on them, I bought some more greenstuff when I went out today.

And here hopefully are better quality pictures of the ones I've completed, I spent some time repainting Aigulf GrailOgre.

New update...

Here is my Bretoggian Friar redone, but he needs to be undercoated and painted, and I need a better name than Irongizzards or whatever, something like, Friar Tork? -

Here is the giant Harpoon/Lance/Battle Standard of L'Anguile and weapon of Saint Aigulf GrailOgre, as you can see he can skewer his enemies even from high up on his Stonehorn. I need to finish painting him still.

And HERE is my pride and joy, Skragg the Slaughterer, I finally painted him! Does he fit my army theme? Hell no, but is he really cool? Yes, yes he is. What I like about Skragg is that he's on NOBODIES side, he just joins the battle whenever one is being fought and goes through his opponents like a slaughterhouse! And you don't need Gorgers to use him anymore!

Now for something completely different, the new Empire Army Book!

And here is another army I will eventually work on, my Empire Army concept, which consists of the Knightly Order of the Gold Lion, led by Glaive Brightsword, my half man/half Beastman Templar Grandmaster and Luthor Huss! Leading what will be a massive band of Flaggellant crazies into the fray, I'm also going to get the new Witch Hunter, and I have an old metal Warrior Priest with two hand weapons.

I have another box of Empire Knights and Flaggellants waiting to be assembled so my starting army will look like...

Glaive Brightsword (Templar Grandmaster).
Luthor Huss.
Warrior Priest with additional hand weapon OR Witchhunter.

12 Empire Knights (regiment.)

12 Empire Knights (regiment.))

20 Flaggellants (regiment.)

I also have a bunch of State Troop Swordsmen, Halbardiers, and Free Company Militia and GreatSwords, but I'm selling them because they are rubbish! Naw, just kidding, I'm selling them because they don't fit the theme of my Empire Army.

Will I get smashed in games most of the time? Probably!

I haven't uploaded anything in a while, anyway this is what I was working on the other night -

Bretoggia has grown! I nearly have everything I need to assemble and complete the army, the Gnoblar Scraplauncher reminds me alot of a Bretonnian Trebuchet.

It's been ages since I've posted anything here, but among other things, to do with the Warhammer hobby I've been mainly assembling the kits of models I want and priming them, and selling all the stuff I've collected over the years that I no longer want on Ebay.

Anyway I finally decided to convert and paint something new this morning, I've been hit by the new edition of Warhammer 40k and the craze and saw this amazing conversion of Nork Deddog on the internet and had to try and emulate it. I already had the model and the newer Ogryn models from the great spending spree of 2010 or was it 2011? Anyway, here is my favourite 40k character, Nork Deddog -

And here is Nork leading an Ogryn Bone'Ead and three Ogryn Auxiliary (even though he can't in the actual game since he's a bodyguard). I realise I'll have to pull apart the other Ogryns to paint them in pieces and pin them together so they are strong.

And now here is my conversion Praetorian Imperial Guard Army so far (I really dig the 19th century Red Coat look) -

Comissar Yarrick and Color Sargeant Kell are in the background of the last two pictures, I chose to leave them in the background because I didn't paint Yarrick and neither him nor Kell suit the concept.

When everything is assembled I should have,

x1 Regimental Command Platoon with Nork Deddog as a bodyguard.

x1 Imperial Chimera Tank.

x1 Veteran Squad (10 Troopers.)

x4 Infantry Squads (40 Troopers.)

x1 Rough Rider Squad (10 Rough Riders.)

x1 Ogryn Auxiliary Squad (1 Ogryn Bone 'Ead and 3 Ogryns.)

This is absolutely superb! I am so glad that I found this gnoblog :) The theme is great; I've only seen Brett Ogres once before, and never as fluffy or flavourful as this... Brilliant!

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Nawwwww, I don't think it's that good... lol, but anyway I'm improving at least, I think I'm going to pull alot of greenstuff off my Mournfang Ogres and completely redo them again since I've gotten a bit better than when I redid them last, and Aigulf on his Stonehorn and his hideous banner lance needs to be redone and the whole model repainted with then new paints. I'm going to finish my squad of Ogryns first though, thanks for the Gnoblar.

New update! Some major needed overhauling has been done, I've scrapped my Stonehorn completely after agonisingly realising he wasn't salvagable, and I bought a new one to get it right this time. I'm going to copy Anvalous though and use the Thundertusk head without the giant tusks and sculpt it into a noble looking beast or some such, like a Lion head or something.

I've completely redone my 3x3 Mournfang Cavalry for the third time, I think they look alot better now, I really like the Ogre Kingdoms Army Book artwork where it shows the Ogres girth and just how fat they are is immense and so my riders are very much bulked up, anyway here's the pictures of them -

These are my Man Eaters, or rather , Saint Aigulf's Knightly Ogre Companions.

They have been fully assembled here, but the shields have only been pinned and not glued, because I need to paint the components seperately.

From left to right I'm thinking their names will be - Gaubaire the Mace, Ogar Excaliboar, Leubhold the Hunch-Back, Galbarhd of the Standard and Ogmir of Araby.

Here is a picture of Tork the Friar, redone again for the third time or something -

This one is formerly Brackshanks the Huntsman, he is now, Garterbaum of the Quest, and he's still a Hunter.

I like to think his pose is he is standing in a stride with his two handed sword strapped to his belt and his shield slung over his back.

And here finally is the nearly finished in the way of greenstuff, Saint Aigulf GrailOgre, facing down a rampaging Giant -

I haven't been working on Ogre Kingdoms for a while, but I have been on a bunch of other projects...

This is where my Empire army is at right now...

There's alot that needs to be done, but I've got all the characters I like the most in the Empire in there, the Captain model, the Witchhunter, the new Warrior Priest model converted to be holding a two handed hammer, Luthor Huss, and my Arch Lector - who is meant to be Luthor Huss on foot.

Flagellants and Knights are my favourite troops theme wise also.

Now here is my Praetorian Guard inspired Imperial Guard Army with Nork Deddog so far, I still have two Infantry Squads to build -

The Rough Riders are inspired by the 19th Century English Dragoons and the whole army is inspired by the Red Coats of the African Campaigns and such.

Now here are my Black Templars, they are all primed and finished in the way of assembly, with the exception of my Dreadnought, who I need to get some bits to finish him off with -

And here are my Dark Angels, note I liked them the best before Dark Vengeance came out, lol. I really like the Death Wing 1st Company and Master Belial and for instance, and the regular Marines are of the 3rd Company and the Chapter Master is Baradiel (from the codex), but I'm thinking of changing them to the 4th Company and using Balthazar when I get around to adding those models to the army.

And now here is what I'm working on currently, the first army I ever properly collected, my Bretonnians, these are some pictures of their current state, I'm hoping to repaint or paint them all up eventually and pin and glue the metal models, since most of them are just glued together.

And inspired by the Bretonnians in the latest White Dwarf, this is what I've been working on tonight, I'm thinking the Knight is going to be a Paladin and the Knight on foot is going to be a Lord with a great weapon and the Virtue of Empathy.

I hear the Bretonnians are getting alot of models changed to finecast come saturday also, which is good news!
