Am I crazy? Well I guess I am if I think I can pull this off.

I want to attempt to build and paint a complete Ogre Battalion in a single weekend. I don't think I'll do it, but I'm interested to see how far I can get.

I am aiming for a pirate theme, so there will be a small amount of converting involved. Basing I'm going to go for a ruined temple look rather than the usual wooden plans business for pirates. Hopefully won't take me too long, but 16 models shouldn't be too difficult right?

Here's my plan:
Tonight: Build most of the ogres (at least 12) and get them undercoated.
Saturday morning: Build the rest of the ogres, start doing base coats.
Saturday afternoon/evening: Finish base coats, start doing first highlight.
Saturday late evening: GET DRUNK
Sunday all day: Finish first highlight, try and get onto the second.

Netflix is queued up, pizza is ordered and my drink next to me. There's not much left to say. Here's my work table ready to go:

More than doable. Good luck with this. You should be able to get all the ogres built tonight. 4 more isnt't that bad. Ogres are generally easy to clean up.

Good luck mate, one piece of advice: do all of the assembly and prep in batches, you'll be able to remember where the most tricky bits are after seeing the seal lines on the first 4 pairs of legs etc.

So, 2 1/2 hours in (including dinner and associated toilet breaks, cat feeding breaks and cat petting breaks) and I've got the six bulls ready to go:

I know the mast is wonky and there's sand on the boots on the guys at the back - sand is just because the green stuff is slightly sticky and the mast is already fixed.

Next: Ironguts!

I was aiming to make them more boot like than sandles - seemed a bit more pirate-y.

I did finish building the battalion last night but it rained so I wasn't able to spray them. There wasn't much conversion done on the Ironguts and Leadbelchers though, just the boots and a converted Gutlord.

Cats and Pirate Ogres? Methinks this might be the start of a wonderful friendship. Great conversions and very efficient ones too, those hookhands are great. Minor nitpick 'd be the greenstuff on the Ogre in the lower pic. Once it's dry, I 'd suggest sanding it down a bit.

The whole lot are still looking good. The gutlord is very effective.

I know the green stuff is a little rough but I'm only just starting out with it. These would be the 3rd set of models that I've used GS on. The cat and I are already fantastic friends. I rescued him from the street after he was kicked out by an abusive neighbour. Taken me 2 months to bring him around, but now he won't leave my side. As I type this he's curled up on my knee purring away.

I'm going to be doing a mixture of highlighting and washing where appropriate. While I understand anyone wanting to dip an army to speed paint it, I'm not a fan of army painter.

It sadly became apparent very quickly that I'd burn out doing all base coats>Highlights>Further highlights. So I'm going to be painting them one unit at a time. So far, the bulls are done!

There's plenty more I'd like to do to tidy them up, but they'll do for tabletop quality. Irongutz next!

'Fraid I can't. Today has been one massive hangover from the drunken antics last night, so I didn't get much painting done. I did get some base colours down on the irongutz but not much else sadly.

I'll have to finish it off this week...

Great results, so far, as ye managed t'add a lot of details in this marathon session, with them different painted breeches, bandanas, the rust effect on the weapons and the reddish noses. Also, I see ye got around that tricky piece of greenstuff on the converted Ogre (the one I nitpicked on) quite well.

Glad t' hear that the wee beastie took up residence with ye. Me own little pest of a cat is great at assisting me when painting minis. as I work more thoroughly with her on my lap or at least nearby.

Looking very nice so far and whilst it's one Hell of an undertaking, I think it's doable without any interuptions (and assuming you don't get too drunk late on Saturday night and end up sleeping most of Sunday!)-God I'd love to have a weekends, or better still a week or two free to just paint! lol.

I have every faith in you achieving this project! Oh, and the mini's look better than anything I could dream of doing in such a short space of time!

Haha nice try though! I had the exact same problem, I started the night ready to get as much work on 6 man eaters as I could, and it ended with a huge hangover this morning lol
