1000p starting playing
« on: Mar 07, 2012, 11:10:40 PM »
1 x SlaughterMaster, level 3

1 x Butcher, Great weapon, level 1 + Sword of strife

4 x Ironguts, Bellower, Champion, Standard + Wailing Banner

4 x Leadbelchers

1 x Ironblaster

My plan here is to have the butcher with Lore of the Great Maw so that i can access other Lore like Heaven or Beast with my slaughtermaster.

How should i put my butcher and slaugthermaster, with the ironguts ? or by themself ?. and can both be in the same unit?.

The only thing i got to buy is the Slaughtermaster but thought that i could post here if it all sounds terrible.
every post is helpfull  : )

Hey there,

Welcome to OK!

About your list; At this point level bodies help more then goodies. You have invested quite a of points into characters and items when you are going to be better off with some Ogres. How about dropping the Slaughter Master for now and perhaps get a Bruiser BSB?

Something like this:

Butcher   100
Bruiser; BSB   130

6x Ogres; Standard, Bellower   200
4x Ironguts; Standard, Bellower, Look Out! Gnoblar   197

4x Leadbelchers; Bellower   182
1x Sabretusk Pack   21

1x Ironblaster   170

This comes to 1000 points exactly and will give you 7 extra bodies which in my opinion will be more useful then a Slaughter Master at this point.

Might be a bit early to go for the big models ^^ but was wondering about the bruiser, what model do I use ? is it the same as the Tyrant? and BSB used for combat resolution , or something more ?

and the look-out gnoblar, the rules says that they work only if i have "three rank and file models", does that mean  3 x 3 = 9 or is it enought if there is 3 ?

You can either use a Tyrant or you can make one yourself from a Ogre/Irongut model and some extra bits. The latter is what a lot of people are doing.
You use the BSB for extra combat result and leadership re-rolls. The re-rolls are the most important thing.

The Look Out! Gnoblar works if you have 3 rank-and-file models. A rank-and-file model is just the basic trooper. In this case an Ogre or an Irongut. But can also refer to a Gnoblar, Mournfang Cavalry or actually anything that isn't a Lord, Hero, Named Character or Warmachine.

So without the Look Out! Gnoblar you will need a unit of 5 Ogres + a Character to get a Look Out Sir! roll. With the Gnoblar you only need 3 Ogres + a Character to get it. The 5 extra points are almost always worth it imo.

Thanks for all the help : ) will go with the bruiser instead.
Probebly buy another pack of ironguts becouse they look cooler that regular ogres and can use one model for the Bruiser and go creative with him.

Sure thing. Just remember that I am a newbie when it comes to OK as well. Also, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. You might have to experience a bit to find the army that suits your play style.

Good luck, let us know how you are doing (perhaps open a Gnoblog?).
