Mantic zombies and GW products?
« on: Dec 31, 2011, 09:07:18 PM »
Hello all,

Basically my first army that got me into wargaming is getting re-done and tbh im ecstatic i have been saving my pennies for a while for this. Now basically im not so happy with the zombies nor ghouls for the games workshop range and much prefer the mantic range.

So pretty simple question, How are the mantic ghouls and zombies comparison to the games workshop ones size wise. Will they stick out like a sore thumb or not the correct base sizes?

as i dont want to really waste money on things i can not use. Thanks any info will help :)

From what I see, they'll fit in fine both in size and theme.  Do note, however, that you will not be permitted to use them in GW stores or events...models need to be at least 75% GW material.

I believe a new VC book, aswell as new VC modells will be coming out shortly, I suggest waiting for a few weeks before you make up your mind.

The models are fine, I have a load myself.  Much cheaper than gw, and I prefer the ghouls more too.

Mantic minis generally run a bit smaller, and they use a more realistic scale (smaller heads and hands generally).
If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

Agreed with reg, they are a little smaller scale but could possibly fit. They are nice models. One thing worth noting is that every one comes attatched to a round bit of plastic on their feet to fit the mantic bases which can be problematic if you don't intend to use those bases

Hi all

hope you all had a great xmas and new year. As for the mantic range ill buy a boxset of ghouls and zombies and blend them into a unit of gw ones. so thanks for the replies appreciate it.
As for zombies there arent any new zombie coming out with the first wave already been informed of that as saddening as that is to hear also an ex staffer of gw and a lot of my mates still work there, but maybe a second release will see new zombies either way from what my mate says no mention of them.

Thank you all.

Ya just can't go wrong with the 60 zombies for something like $56 from mantic.  I can imaging if GW does decide to make an updated box it will be 10 zombies for $30.  Mantic is just a good deal all around.

I have a big problem with Mantic and the people who use their minis (not really this second bit).  But I would have a problem if I played against a mantic army using VC rules.

Mind if I ask why?

Its 20 for $30, but still.

However, if you cant pick up some extra bases and make at least 30, if not 40, zombies out of the parts in the box, then you can't call yourself a converter at all.  Its *zombies* people... have some halves crawling out of the dirt, hack of some parts and cobble together extra zombies, etc, etc.  Makes your units look cooler, and adds mileage to your gaming dollar to boot.

i view it as a extreme case of proxying and thus it bugs me to see it.  In my mind its like me walking up with a crate of army men and claiming they are empire handgunners.

OK, I can see that arguement.

But let me counter you with my Yhettees, my second Scraplauncher and Ironblaster, and my Tyrant. None of them are GW models, most are cheaper than the GW alternative and are, to me, better too. Is this proxying? They are the same reasons that people will go with Mantic over GW.

I'm not trying to change your mind, or even provoke an arguement, but I think that asserting that everyone has to use the GW version of a figure when there are cheaper alternatives is a little over the top. Times are tough, money is tight and this is an expensive hobby. If people want to save a few quid on their models then I have no issue with it.

Ah see I do not have a problem with like single units or characters (as i find some GW characters lacking myself) but I am talking about the guy who slaps a pure pantic undead army on the table across from me.  Sorry buddy I dont want to play kings of war I want to play warhammer

My personal opinion is that if a chap wants to spend less money to play the same game it's all fair. Do the mini's work with the ruleset, yup, then it's fair game. I think people should be free to spend what they want when it is their hobby and their money funding it. If they can put together a great looking army and it costs them half of what it would if they bought from GW then I'm happy for them. You still get your game of Warhammer out of it!

I can understand that they're not allowed in GW stores and fully support that position but just because you want to play their rules I don't believe that you need to buy their miniatures as well.
