Converted Tyrant all done!
« on: Jun 14, 2006, 02:31:43 PM »
Hurrah, my Tyrant, Beastmaster Gymir the Paranoid is finally finished.

Based on the normal OK tyrant model with the whip from Khazrak and additional bitz from about a dozen other kits or models.

Hrmf, this and a couple of the following pics ended up being a bit too washed-out. I'll see if I can't improve them a bit.

Note the heads, taken from the Albion giants kit. The two outer banner poles are from an Orc special character, while the central one is a barbeque skewer with a bretonnian brazier on top (GS-ed flames, which I was never 100% happy about).

Note the Tenderiser. I tried to paint in some veins in the black obsidian block but just couldn't get it right, so now it's just a glossy black block with the edges picked out.
Note also his Jade Lion amulet in the belt, taken from the Middenheimer sprue.

Close-up of his pet dog, Spots. The rear corner of the model was a bit empty, so I added this model from a bretonnian set to add a bit of character to it.

Close-up of his Accountant Gnoblar. I really wanted to get across the idea that Gymir is a mercenary commander and hence is the one that carries the army pay chests around strapped to his gut plate and he has a gnoblar with an abacus on his shoulder to make sure no-one tries to cheat him. Other things that emphasise this is the keys in his belt (you can see them in the second picture) and the letter of recommendation on his advertising rack.

The old stand-in Gymir greets the finished Tyrant and gets ready to go back to the position of Irongut champion.

Tyrant with a couple of Bulls.
And the Baby Ogre said: "Someone's been eating my Gnoblars too! And they've eaten them all up!"

My gnobbos are called Dutch, Dillon, Mac, Blain and Billy

Very nice conversion,  the tyrant looks good. You actually gave me and Idea for mine.

I must admit that i do not like the green base colors.

Heh! I've been painting the edges of my bases that colour for more than a decade now and I'm not about to change. :P

Impressive! The level of detail and work is astounding. And it's nearly perfect. You should be very proud.
If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

Awesome conversion and great paintjob avian. I also agree with Genghis about the bases. I find that Terracotta is a much nicer colour to use. Any sort of brown can look good in most settings, while green bases only look good in grassy terrain.

Very nice conversion work Avian.
I agree about the base, grey would look better.
The paint is nice, it might be the lighting for the shot, but it looks like you could go one highlight higher to really make the model sing. That last almost white blend to pick out the detail.

Great work.

Very nice indeed, and i for one like the green edges for the bases, i think it looks better than brown together with the gray and grass your using on the bases.  :)

Very Cool and characterized model: I like him a lot.
If i can say one thing, though, the fire looks somewhat "unlit" and "unnatual": if you put some OLS on the burner, it will look astonishing and give the mini a whole new awsome feeling.
my 2 cents
cheers

I've had a blank at the moment and can't for the life of me remember what it stands for. Basically, it means the light that is thrown off from a light source is going to light up parts of the model as well and it would look cool to just have some parts that look like the light from the flame is falling across them.

Object Light Sourcing

usually, we paint minis with light coming from above (bright, yellow/white sun light). OLS means that light comes from an object (fire, lava, a magical glowing item etc etc) that generates some sort of lightning effect not necesseraly white, and not necesseraly from above.

here are some great and extreme exemples:

Right. That stuff.

I can't say I much care for it. Nearly every instance I've seen it is overdone and it looks more like the model is drenched in something.
Meh, when it's daylight outside the torch will not make it significantly lighter.

When he accidentally eats a dog, the gnobbos get him a new one. Thus this is probably Spots #26 or something. :P
