Ogre Kingdoms Rumours
« on: Jan 22, 2010, 04:06:12 PM »
Some rumours about the next Ogre Kingdoms release have popped up over on the Warhammer Forum, posted by Stronghold member Avian:

"Look for better equipment, the option to fight in a new formation and significantly fewer restrictions.
Shame about the changes to fear.

I'm quite excited, both with regards to timing (though I'll have to juggle painting my chaos AND ogres while changing diapers) and the book contents. And the models."

A few more rumours have recently been posted at the Stronghold - you can find them over here.

If Avian says so it's most definitely happening. The new formation sounds particularly interesting. I'm also intrigued by the changes he says sensible players have already dismissed. Stubborn? S5?
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Avian was really cagey with his answers so I am pretty sure he knows something. Me... I'm just happy to have hope for a new book.

My guess is that he was talking about "a new formation". In that particular thread S5 didn't come up although army-wide stubborn did. But I have strong doubts about army-wide stubborn showing up in an army that fights mainly because it's hungry. Just doesn't fit the fluff IMHO.

Plus I think they will save Stubborn for the Dwarfs. It works better for them anyway.

Perhaps this new formation will be similar to what skinks and kroxigor can do? At the moment gnoblars feel a bit disjointed from the rest of the army, they're just stuck in a corner bickering or off hunting war machines. There's no real dynamic between them and the big guys.

Ugh - I hope not. Adding more free CR to our units of Ogres is not what I would call a "fix". I'm hoping it is more like the Bret lance formation or something.

I now reveal the forthcoming ogre formation rules!

The potsticker formation
Congaline of ogres, their single impact hit pierces ranks like a bolt thrower.

The cauldron formation
Square formation of ogres facing all directions, no flanks or rear.

The picnic table formation
2 rows of ogres facing in towards each other.  Im not sure yet what special rules this one confers.....   :P

I'm guessing it'll be more "Black Friday with Limited Supplies of the Tickle Me Gnoblar" formation.

But it will smell better.
And so it was that Baldrin's fate
Was met upon an Ogre's plate...

Gutplate confers armour save, im calling it right now cause I have been asking for it for years.

Goodness, I have bought half my ogre army to re-build after the crash and now I come across this! I am tempted to hold off if some of these rumors are true! I am very excited, and glad I came over and saw this.

Im just really hoping that there will be something that allows an armour save. Ogres are so vunerable to shooting its silly, there isnt anything that can help. A unit that can have full plate ogre armour would be great IMO. Also they really need to change the way ogres get CR, after all 5 wide of Bulls costs a rediculous amount never mind a 2nd rank. I really hope they bring out better gut magic rules, better armour saves, better equipment and a few more army choices!

I do not fance the idea off hard armoured fat boys. Even though they're tough and strong it would be just make them into a bigger chaos guy. A 5+ for Ironguts is as much enough as those ironfist and light armour is for the bulls.

I rather ask for more magic. What about a Gnoblar shaman? Some kind of Mr. Butcher's henchman? I do not ask for giving more weenies to them strongies, but make the Gnoblars more... blessed with culture. Like little rhinox bull riding gnoblar cavallary (they do not need to be strong but fast, maybe even as rare choice) - it wouldn't be problem to create some rhinox breed that can be used for the gnoblars.
Or Maybe just an upgrade for the ogre units' champions. Like ballistic skill of 4 among the leadbelchers - why is there a champion option anyway? One more attack for 10 points? Naah.
I hope the new army book will make it more "unique" in unit choice then in balancing the regular armie levels. Though the release still doesn't hurry that much. Ogres still can kick them arses good enough in oldschool 2005-style IMO.

I hope they improve the gut magic list alot. Many of the spells are defence spells and doesnt really help them with their combat result. Spells that give them hatred or extra attacks should help them alot. And replace remains in play rule against until the casters next magic face.

Gut magic is somewhat subtle, and I quite like it that way. Want to make sure those Maneaters don't bounce off Chaos Armour? Bullgorger. Want to make sure your sacrificial Bull units can hold an enemy in place for a turn or two? Toothcracker. The list of tactical options is massive - I wouldn't like to see generic 'however many D6 hits at such and such strength'.

The RIP mechanic (and reasonable facsimilie in our case) for defensive spells is horrible.  It has to go, make them all 1 round buffs.

Making another die roll after a successful casting attempt to get off bullgorger is also insulting and random.  It has to go.

Braingobbler has no use against ITP armies.  Make it cause frenzy in ogre units.

Done.

Agreed with Talonz. Two rolls to get off a spell? Who else has that?

Also, the gut magic is becoming essentially useless, as everyone will just let you cast it and then dispel in their own magic phase. Dispose of the RiP rule and all will be fine.

About the braingobbler- I quite like it. Saved my butt quite a lot of times, actually. Maybe it could be a choice, like: After successfull cast, the butcher can opt for one of these effects: panic test or make an Ogre unit frenzied, or ItP.

Some more stuff off Warseer - obviously, condiments required.

New plastic Rhinox kit with the two options we already 'know' about (Rider and Scrappie) and also a Gnoblar fighting platform, presumably like a Stegadon.

Butchers to become unit upgrades that give bonuses according to what they eat. I was a bit skeptical, but the guy claimed to have actually seen these rules being tested. The details were hard to make out, as his grammar was rather bad....

i love the rumour of a joint rider/scrappy/platform kit, but i cant see its price being cheaper than teh forge world models for rhinox riders? maybe around the price of the stegadon box which is what..25 pound?

the butcher upgrade thing wasnt amazingly clear, but if we get spellcasters as bull unit upgrades, even just lvl 2's , would we start to dominate the magic phases? and make bulls more useful to take

Hmm. Not sure I buy the Butcher rumor. Could be interesting but I don't like it.
