The Feeding Grounds / Re: 3 way battles

Thanks for the ideas guys!
I think the middle player ultimately gets it from both sides  :)
Maybe a triangular board to play on would work?

The Feeding Grounds / 3 way battles
« on: Dec 19, 2012, 06:35:43 PM »
Hello fellow gamers, I was wondering if any of you have an effective way of doing a 3 way battle, this is 3 different armies, so 1 turn consists of an extra turn, everyone against everyone.
Problems facing a 3 way battle I have found, magic is a problem. You have 2 dispeler's with the same amount of dice(usually, ie channels and the like), so the roll is 5 and 2, 7 for casters phase and 5 each for dispels, not very promising magic phases(you'll want double 6's if you decide to go with magic or you'll get nothing most the time). Rallying, this is usually not going to happen because it's not your turn next(being charged with wipe whatever unit is fleeing off the table). Deployment is tricky as well(we have 1 side with 1 player and the other side consists of 2).
Thanks for any input!

I'd drop the Thundertusk and go for a lvl 2 (Firebelly or Butcher).

I was mucking around with a unit of 18 leadbelchers. Two ranks of 9, add BSB with flaming banner and character with crown of command and reform to horde formation when charged. Bring lots of dice!

You can reform if your being charged? Or a round previous to the charge you mean?
Thanks for any clarification  :)

If we make Teclis cost points appropriate to what he does, then he's going to be so expensive your going to need to be playing 4k-5k for him to be practical.

A-hah! Seems to fit the price now. Teclis is par-non the best wizard in the game(I think), therefore should make his appearances quite rare within the world of Warhammer :)
Not every High Elf army can/should have the option of bringing him to the table. lol
I wish Ogres had the option for an Ultra Tyrant!
I made a wish, like to hear it? Here it goes!
I wish I had a Tyrant, Tyrant named Phatback
Phatback was such a Tyrant, he was so unbreakable
He didn't have to use a weapon, his gaze was all that was needed
Caused Terror in everything, even mighty dragons
And if you got to close, you'd have to roll 2D6 under your initiative
Was twice the size of a regular Ogre, caused 3D6 impact hits
Liked to rip the heads off things, uses Heroic Killing Blow
Liked to wear his Rune Maw crown, magic was so useless
His armor was a wondrous thing, hide made from Stegadons
AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Thank you, thank you very much! ;)

Teclis needs his toys to work for him but I disagree with abilities that come with them. Everything needs an Achilles heel, I think that the power in them is a bit too great, especially that crown. It should cost an additional 100 points option for him or it could be toned down to a one use only or if he uses the crown then all power dice and dispel dice gets sucked into the crown and Teclis loses D6 spells and additionally wizard levels equal to the number of spells he lost and then could be a part of his armament. Just a little wishful thinking on the matter. :)

Rules Questions and FAQs / Battle Standard as general

Sorry if this has been covered before but can an Ogre Bruiser be BS and general?
Thanks for any clarity!

Skullgor, please use real words, thanks - Lexy

Rules Questions and FAQs / Re: dragonhide banner icy blast

Yeah, but this way your pretty much guaranteed some impacts hits(hopefully D3). Hopefully you have down what units in armies can carry great weapons, then you could choose wisely! If something can cause my big unit of Ironguts to always strike last, I'd still charge! :)

Armies of the Kingdoms / Re: Maneater Horde @ 2500 points... crazy?
« on: Sep 06, 2012, 06:37:55 AM »
18XManeaters(FC, 12 dual pistols and Dragonhide banner) are 1124, I'd go ahead and heavy armor them up for 72 more points for a total of 1196.
Slaughtermaster is 310
14XIronguts(FC, Banner of Dis) are 647
Bruiser (Battle Standard Bearer), 184 pts
. . Heavy Armor
. . Sword of Striking
. . Enchanted Shield
. . Talisman of Endurance
Total up to here is 2337
Maybe drop champ in ME
then you"d have enough for an Ironblaster!
You would have your giga-thump ME unit(minus champion), your giga-thump IG unit and an Ironblaster, 3 units is a must and there you have 'um :)

I'm not trying to argue, I'm just wondering if I cheated. Thanks for sending me in the right direction, anyone?

I can't find were it says one magic armor.  But this is from the rulebook--- Only the most influential characters will be clad in magical armour from top to toe. Also---- A model can only have one suit of armour and one shield
This is on page 174. Have I been cheating?   I have used the combo of AoD and ES for a Tyrant before.

Looks pretty good! Just a thought on Mournfang Calv.-You could take 5 poisonous maneater snipers with HA and dual pistols for the same cost, I love picking off characters with these! :)

13
Yep minimum is 3 units, can spend 25% for lord 25% hero(s) 25% core(mandatory) 50% special 25% rare.
And also have to have a general, plain bruiser 105 pts or you could use a butcher or firebelly.
Gnoblars could fill 2 unit(s) slots and only cost 25 per unit.
Yeah a 500pt game would be kinda hard to make but sounds fun!

You could try dragon style! Give him the Arabyan Carpet and fly him around on a flank of the enemy and breath attack them. :) Strength 4 and flaming could do a number on most infantry units!

Okay cool  8)
Another question!
Say this unit is now in combat and formed the way my illustration is, can I claim +1 bonus for standard being in the unit or does he have to be in the front rank to claim this bonus? A page reference would be appreciated if he has to be in the front rank to claim this bonus.
Thanks again!

Rules Questions and FAQs / Re: Challenge and impact hits?
« on: Jul 24, 2012, 01:05:20 AM »
If impact hits were allocated the same way shooting is allocated, then you could not direct this action upon the so called, 1 on 1 challenge, of course, unless there is other rankandfiletroops/character on the side that is taking the charge and in base contact with the chargie's. I think Karl(in this case) would take no impact hits but the +1 for charge or +2 for charge and flank combat resolution would take effect.

Hello,
I am having trouble finding the gnoblog I started on my firebelly tribe, I started it long long ago in 07 and stopped playing Warhammer for a bit, but started back up in the 8th edition. The Stronghold has since then changed and I can't navigate to it anymore, can someone tell me how to navigate to it or has it been to long since i had visited the site and been deleted? Thanks for any help on this subject.

The Butcher's Cauldron / airbrushing
« on: Jan 31, 2012, 05:54:06 PM »
I was wondering if anyone does airbrushing on their models? If so, what kind of air brush and what kind of paint do you use?
Thanks for any info on this subject.
