Thx for the posts!

First game was against well painted WoC army. Had bad time vs. 550 lvl4 deamon prince of slaanesh, chimera, bsb on a disc, 2x gorebeast chariot, 2x 21 warriors of khorne, hellcannon and few bunch of hounds. We played 3 his turns and two of my turns. No time for more. I lost 12-8 and it would have been even worse for me if we had continued turn or two.

Second game I had great chances of taking 20-0...I think :D An ethreal based VC army, but no gheists! :) Several spirit host, 5x hexwraigths, 6x crains with one banshee, 4x 20 zombies, 2 swarms, black coach, (some wolves, mayby?), 30-40 chouls with bsb and lvl4 vampire lord. He also had lvl2 nercomancer.

Killed nicely his ethreals with the maw (only spell I got to harm him :D ), but left those dam crains with banshee to do what they wanted. I also did some really stubid overruns! I won 11-9.

Last game was vs. welfs. Had fun. I did minium errors and followed my own plan. He had treeman, some 12-15 dryads, lvl4 beasts, lvl2 their own lore, bsb, some character that looked like a burned stick, 15 wardancers, 2x 10 gladeguard, 15 gladeguard, eagle, 10 waywatchers, 5 wild riders and mayby something else.. After 4 rounds he was wiped out and I had lost only half of my bulls. Even sabres were alive :D

Anyway, on to your list!
You are neither combat heavy or magic heavy (which is good) However I would advise taking a Bruiser over a fire belly purely for the heavens Sig spell, that -1 to hit is going to be your saving grace. At 2400 pts there is going to be a lot of units on the table (more so your opponents side) and -1 to hit on his key unit would work wonders! especially if they fail fear lol.
Man! Had some sort of memory that butchers are not allowed to take heavens :O Well, That lvl1 butcher with heavens could really be something, but I kind a want to have that anti-rege in my star and I also need fireball to clear chaf.. You would take crown for SM, but to me needing my star to be stubborn has been a very situational...and then we I usually have that signature spell.
Additionally I would prefer to run gruts sickle. I know you said you prefer this set up, but most armies are going to out magic you and that +2 to cast means they need to throw more dispel dice than you do casting dice! Pretty much setting off a good magic phase every turn or saving it for a key magic phase. 1 wound for a dominating magic phase and then ruin his with Hellheart! and don't forget the "laugh in his face" part :)
If you can scrape up the points stick AoD on your BsB, he is the lynch pin of your army and you want him as bubble wrapped as possible :)
Gruts is something I should try. Should I test it so, that I take some bulls (6-8) with my SM to support my some 9 IG's with BSB and another caster? For my BSB's armour, I remembered a wrong name :D It should be AoD for the points for sure :P
...
ME's - Immune to psych? wouldn't stubborn be better? at >2000pts your opponent now has enough hard hitting units to turn and counter them without affecting the outcome of other battles. Stubborn may be more beneficial should he hard counter your ME's (good positioning should prevent that) but its not always possible :)
Taking panic has been problem for my ME's so far. ITP on ME's still gets me losing wounds and models, but not the whole unit :D But I would like them to have stubborn as well. Mayby with cleaming pennant, but with flaming attacks these guys can really wipeout anything. If I had models, I would take 2 untis of 6 scouting ME's :D ..is that even allowed by the way :O

And I still dont give my opponents "eternal hatred" by taking two IB's since I have only one model :D

SM: General, lvl 4 lore of the great maw, fencers blades, glittering scale's, dispel scroll, ironcurse icon
375
Bruiser: BSB, armour of destiny, great weapon
191
Firebelly: Lvl 1, hellheart
170

13 ironguts: Gutlord, standard, bellower, look-out gnoblar, standard of discipline
609

4 MF'c: Standard, bellower, heavy armour, ironfist, dragonhidebanner
350
8 ME's: Captain, standard, bellower, heavy armour, 4*xhd, immune to psychology, scouts, banner of eternal flame
480
Sabretusk
21
Sabretusk
21

Ironblaster
170

2387

How to spend the remaining points? Take something off to add more? Mayby change BSB's eguipment? GW's for ME's?

The list is overall what I like to play and know how to play. Two kitties to redirect for MF and star. IB for support if possible. 8 ME's can make the game for me in most cases. Everything I have is worthy to destroy and dangerous. Let my opponent worry how to deal with all of them.

5
So, after lots of cunning planning and playing practice games, the tournament was cancelled due to lack of participants :( every one backed off at the late moment. So the thing went sideways. New run for this tournament coming late this autum. Now one week away, is a 2400 with named characters allowed. Making topic for that one.

Seems pretty solid to me. I would take rather SM with maw and more IG's and a unit of 4 MF over 6 leadies. But thats just my personal taste. Really like the way you maximise ME's. Heavy armours really no use on them and even one more body with just a one pistol is great. Mayby drop standard from them? ..unless your playing blood and clory or something.

You've got some point, but I can't use all of your advises.
No need to :D As I said, just my opinions :)

Firebelly is too expensive. Level 2 mage with hellheart is above 200 pts, so doesn't fit.
This came to my mind later on. No reason to lvl1 firebelly over lvl2 maw.

I run my unit of 3 MF also with crusher and bellower. Because of blood and glory, taking standard and cleaming pennat on ME's is the way to go for your list.

Gave my bsb flamings, so i can move him to Meneaters, when mage/hero have regeneration. But when he have fire res, my BSB will remain in IG bunker.
Great plan 8) Hope you can manage it if needed :)

I'm also thinking about trading both gnoblar units into 3 Ogres with music and fist, and magic resistant banner on IG. But not sure about it. Gnoblars move a bit slow, and my army now is rather "frenzy" type.

I have never played gnoblars and I must say, as my own opinion, that do not swap gnoblars to bulls. I have played 7 test games within last month with my 1200p BP tournament list and 3 bulls is kind a "meh". You got that "half"-gutstar with butcher and bruiser, MF and ME to support it...why take 3 bulls to cause that panictrain, if u can take gnoblars? If u take those bulls, run them alone somewhere far away :D

Armies of the Kingdoms / Re: 1800 tournament ETC

For 1800p you could consider taking firebelly instead of butcher. FB would give you flaming attacks, breath and magic missle..solving abo, hydra, troll, ethereal,.. -based problems :) As long as you dont roll the maw or the braingnobler as for your spells, butcher should be better choice than FB. Just my personal opinion. I would keep butcher and mayby even the bsb in the second rank, but that would demand another 10p for a gutlord. The way you build your heroes seems ok and the list is a pretty solid.

Putting standard in a unit of 3 MF is something I never do, I mean what will they do with it? MF CC resolution will not rely on that one point from standard. I play 3 MF in 1200p and I just keep them in the BSB's bubble. It is not a bad idea or a shame to use 3 MF as a countercharge unit in this kind of a list. If there is a lots of cover from terrain or no cannons on the opposite side, then you can run them outside of your BSB's bubble.

Giving flaming to your ME's is a one way to prepare for regeneration, but poison sniping ME's in a tournament with those rules should not take flaming attacks. There will be 2 W T3/4 mages and BSB's sitting in bunkers with a minium or none armour, but they can have a freaking 2++ against fire based attacks for 5p :x So, do not ruin your ME's build by taking that banner. I think sniping those important models was your plan taking those ME's poison sniper with 2xpistols and it is a great plan. If you generally want to have standard on them anyway (also ME's CC resolution will not depend on the standard, most likely), than give them the gleaming pennat.

Not sure about the SH ability to be competetive, but mayby you are a wizard with that thing ;) You got trappers and cats, so you should be able to take care of his redirectors also while redirecting your opponent.

Running MF, SH and lots of IG's in 1800p will a lot of must-try-to-shoot-down for your opponent. No brainer, get in the CC as fast as you can :D And snipe mages before BSB. Remember this goal during the deployments.

Hi there!

Long story short:

Your lords and heroes seem ok overall. Mayby take firebelly instead of butcher, unless you really want to run lvl 2 death, beasts or heavens for some reason. For your list, I would personally take the firebelly with scroll & ring, or with HH.

I never play gruts, but cant really say it wont "work". You could your SM in IG's also..mayby add few more bodies there.

Take ME's and make them scout if your only taking 3. Unit of 4 MF or more really need dragonhide banner. You should really (must) take 2-3 single sabres too. Make these changes to your special, even if it means cutting all leadies off.

Playing TT is fluffy and fun, but making it pay back its points is really hard. I would take leadies for that 250p if needed to be competetive...and I even have on TT myself.

Ironblaster will make a difference as long as it wont missfire.

11
Yes that battle report was a similar list against a similar bret army... same opponent though :P
Got me there :P
But yes, I think you should stick with the ME's. They are not as big a target as MFC and they will split fire more rather then focusing on them :)
good luck!

Chris
Great minds think alike :D

12
Wow! That was great! I played empire today and won but with some awful rolling! Knights are a real bane of me. They destroyed my unit of ironguts (8with bruiser) in close combat. My rolling was awful! Really out of all the hits I achieved two hits and one wound! Yes my opposition brought canon and HBVG and it was very, very good. It can destroy units so quickly with some lucky rolls. So this shows even the best lists (not saying I build the best:) ) can be destroyed by poor luck!

So good luck in your tournament!
Thanks! May the dice gods be in your favour further on!

Hey :) Grats on the wins :)

Like I said above I prefer the Scout variety just because I can really mess with my opponents plans from T1 :)
However I recently beat a brets list 2000pts without a single casualty :) I am ashamed to say I ran a gut hoard! (ive never ran one before and I was curious) :) I ran ME's instead of my usual MFC with Poison/Sniper and got his BsB Turn 2 before any charges! ( I let him charge me ) Turn 3 combat started, 6 grails, 27 Kotr in front, 40 Men at arms in flank and 10 archers in other flank (really bad positioning thanks to scenery and the size of my unit I had no choice if I ever wanted to see combat lol) I won by 7 :) Anyway point of this little story is Ogres are TOUGH with a capitol T! :) Take the butcher and pray for Toothcracker and/or stubborn :) Those ME's could be VERY deadly with Stubborn, Poison, Sniper, T5, HA! :)

Just a thought :)
Chris

:D I read your report. Nice job by the way :) Gutstar just is something nasty with lvl4 maw SM :D
For now and for this very tournament, I will play ME's as they are in my list. I gotta admit that I am very keen to find out how they really do if build and boosted more in CC manner. Just the pure amount of high S attacks with a decent I...  :P

Welcome to the Stronghold and may the Maw praise your belly! :D

So, long story short: In my opinion, playing tyrant is not as competetive as playing SM instead, but I give you a gredit bringing that model on table. If you want to play tyrant in 2000-2500p, well then you just take it :)

You have/you are planning models that make a good list. No doupt. Stonehorn is bit of a same thing as the tyrant. ME's are something you must have, competetively and fluffwise. Convert those from bulls and make them look what ever you want.

14
Haha nicely played! I would say go with whatever your 'gut' tells you. Butcher is a nice option and by the sounds of it you prefer him so go with it. Sorry to really mess with your list here but cheese armies like empire (empire aren't cheesy in general but they can be) will bring much artillery and seeing as you said only one O&G force is going, those maneaters are killed just as easily as normal bulls by canons and the like only they will be giving your oponent lots of points. Thats just a points denial idea... I would say stick with the list you are happy with and that you have tested and succeeded with. Another side note, are your opponents actually good players? Mainly because alot of people dominate their local area but can be rubbish at tournies. So are they competitive or not? Anyways keep doin what your doin! Oh and I respect you for not running Gutstar, well done!:)
Non taken :D ..and thanks again for the tips :)

Had one test game against empire by the way and my opponent had the max artillery allowed by the composition: 1 cannon and hellblaster. Actually killed one ME and made them run, but luckily I rallied later on. Charged his 10 upraged inner circles (and his bsb with them) with my 3 remaining ME's. CC lasted 3 rounds and I won it :)

My ME's are near 300p / 4 model unit, so I need to protect them as much as possible. This list seems solid to me and has also worked well. Few players, that I have tested my list against, are not as average players as I, but few friends really bring it. The tournament will tell am I any good :D ..my list is far enough tooled and tested, so I am all to blame if there will not be some success :D

15
Thank you for your opinions :) Sorry for giving so little info about the composition.

Composition of this tournament is sadly so, that only 6 MI models per unit is the max cap. Also 300p is the max cap for the points per unit, so I just cant fill my core (300p still minium there) with that one unit of IG's :D Makes my wana tear my hair of :D So no brainer, 5 ME's with pistols would be over 300p. As I see it, only reason to take FB over butcher would be the trolls that I may face. Right now, the tournament is doing pretty lame (only 15/24 participating). Only one possible O&G army so far, but the tournament is still 2 weeks away.

I have played some 6-7 test runs with my list and have tooled it a bit every time. I played only one game taking FB over butcher. This is the list I am running at the moment:

Butcher
General, lvl 2 maw, dispel scroll, additional hand weapon
162p
Bruiser
Bsb, heavy armour, ironfist
138p
3 Bulls
Ironfists
96p
6 Iron guts
Standard, bellower, look-out gnoblar, standard of discipline
298p
Sabretusk
21p
3 Mournfang cavalry
Heavy armour, ironfists, crusher, bellower
200p
4 Maneaters
Poison, sniper, brace of ogrepistols, captain, bellower, heavy armour
284p

1199p

Since 6th spell of any lore does not work, only "bad" spell I may end up with my butcher is the 4th. Our magic missle has been awesome so far :) For exapmle, last evening I had a test game vs Delfs and took out 5/6 cold ones with that spell. Taking anything else than poison and sniper on ME's would be serious cardiology ease to my opponents :D When no lords are allowed and 25p is the max cap for items, skills, marks,.. that you can take on your character, there will be easy and tastefull targets for my ME's to shoot 8)  ..few days back had a test game vs O&G. Sniped his BSB at turn one. Savages and two night goblings standing in a stupidity forest....e're we go! :D

16
How about this one? You think this would be more competetive than the one above?

Firebelly
General, lvl 1 fire, additional handweapon
122p
Bruiser
Bsb, heavy armour, ironfist
138p
10 gnoblars
25p
6 Iron guts
Standard, bellower, look-out gnoblar, standard of discipline
298p
Sabretusk
21p
3 leadbelchers
132p
3 Mournfang cavalry
Heavy armour, ironfists, bellower
190p
4 Maneaters
Poison, sniper, brace of ogrepistols, bellower, heavy armour
274p

1200p

Make the FB with HH lvl1 and put him with bulls. Give him additional instead of GW. Make the FB with ring and scroll lvl2 and put him in IG's with BSB and tyrant. Give tyrant the built that was mentioned earlier in this post..and same for BSB. On the other hand, I second your opinion to give IG's the standard of discipline. Crown of command would be great too. And take 9 IG's.

kind a massive game and steady report though, so good job. Long game that took the best out of you very much, but a game you will remember. Gongrats for the W!

Had fun reading :D Great report!

Hi everyone! I have been away for a while from forum, but been playing still a lot. Battle reports have been not made, but I did also play a few tournaments earlier this year.

So, this Border Patrol is 3 weeks away and I have tested my list below 4 times (against HE, DE, VC and DoC). The list works well, only played draw agaist DoC. Other games were major victories. I assume, that most armies wont have BSB on in their roster in this tournament, but I still have mine. Should I take firebelly instead, or a two maneaters? Something else. Lvl 2 maw butcher has been worth every point :) Since the composition of the tournament do not allow any of the 6th spells of all lores to be taken, chances to get trollguts and/or the toothcracker are good. Those spells really make this list strong. BSB has not been the game changer so far.

Butcher
General, lvl 2 maw, ironfist
138p

Bruiser
Bsb, heavy armour, ironfist
138p

6 bulls
Ironfists, bellower
202p

6 Iron guts
Standard, bellower, look-out gnoblar, standard of discipline
298p

Sabretusk
21p

3 Mournfang cavalry
Heavy armour, ironfists, bellower
190p

3 Man eaters
Standard, bellower, brace of ogre pistols, cleaming pennant, poison, sniper
211p

1198p

Just for the record and to help commenting :D composition does not allow more than 6 models in a monstrous infantryunit, not more then 3 in a monstrous cavalryunit and only 25p can be spend on magic items, marks, runes,.. for a one model/unit. Also IB is not an option, since single model (does not consider characters, lords are not allowed by the way) may only cost 140p.

Well, this list did great against dark elves that had: PoK pegasus master, lvl4 shadow with 20 spears, 40 corsairs, 2*7 shades, 5 harpies and some 14 cold ones with dreadlord and bsb. Only problem was, that I didint quite get of spells that I wanted. Mainly because winds were many rounds total of 4 or something :( ...not so sure about two casters. And the lore of the great maw gives the buffs that I need.

Thanks for tips iamchrisatkin!

So here is what I planned:

SM
General, lvl 4 beasts, fencer’s blades, clittering scales, dispel scroll, ironcurse icon
375

Bruiser
Bsb, crown of command , heavy armour, enchanted shield, biting blade
184

Butcher, lvl 2 maw, great weapon
144

15 ironguts
Standard, bellower, look-out gnoblar, standard of discipline
685

Sabretusk
21

Sabretusk
21

8 ME’s
Standard, bellower, 4*additional handweapon, heavy armour, banner of eternal flame
450

4 MFc
Standard, bellower, heavy armour, ironfist, dragonhide banner
350

Ironblaster
170

2400

24
I would take more IG's over the bulls. I assume (and I my self would) you are going to deploy all characters in that gutstar, so make it bigger anyway. That much leadies can give the same support that bulls would, if it ever comes to need. You lose one deployment choise, but thats your only loss IMO. Losing bulls gives you almost 5 more IG's.
