Tales of Conquest / 013 Tomb Kings vs Wood Elves
« on: Apr 18, 2013, 11:30:03 AM »
hi,

Me and 3 mates went to Warhammer World this last Sunday and had ourselves a 4 player round robin tournament.

It was 2000pts un-comped warhammer.

I took Tomb Kings and having spent all my easter break painting them up, was quite eager for this day!

Please leave feedback etc either here or on YouTube.

Next two games are against Empire and Beastmen

Tales of Conquest / 012 High Elves vs Wood Elves 2000pts (YouTube)

Hi guys,

I've just uploaded my most recent battle from my gaming club (Steel City Wargamers).

I've gone back to my High Elves for this in anticipation that i might not be bale to get 2000pts worth of unproxied Tomb Kings ready for my touranment a week on Sunday (cue mad painting!)

I've never struggled to beat them with Ogres but always suffer as High Elves. Has my luck changed?

As ever, please let me know what you think.

Tales of Conquest / 011 Ogres Vs Dwarves (YouTube) 2000

Hi Guys,

Here's my latest game from the "Steel City Wargaming" Club in Sheffield.

This is the first time i've actually ever played dwarves. I'd heard and seen from other BatReps that they  can be incredibly boring to play against but i found this a really fun game and was a good laugh for both me and my opponent.

Either way, it was BLOODY!

Hope you enjoy it.

Tales of Conquest / 010 Tomb Kings vs Warriors of Tzeentch

Hi guys,

This is a battle report of my second game at Sheffield Wargames club: "Steel City Wargaming". It's the first time i've used Tomb kings on a real battlefield and not just Universal Battle...and it shows!

My opponent was really sound and had a very nice list i thought.

Click me to watch video

Let me know what you think. I'm still very new to Tomb kings and this was also the first time i've ever used a special character!

Hi guys,

Well, i'm off to one of my best mates stag do tomorrow and were having a wee tournament during the day. Only four of us. I'm bringing Ogres and there should be a Lizardman, Wood Elf and Empire list present.

I'm going to update this topic with individual links to the battle reports (Youtube), but for now thought i'd link to a video explaining my list and thoughts on what i'm facing

Hope you enjoy

The Feeding Grounds / Sweedish Comp Challenge!
« on: Jan 01, 2013, 08:10:32 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm wanting to get into my first tourney's this new year and so have been looking up the different comp packs used in the UK. Whilst i can get a list i'm happy with under ETC and Sheffield Slaughter restrictions, i can not, for the life of me, make a list that scores over a 10 in the Sweedinh Comp System.

Can anyone who uses this system, or even anyone who justs wants to take up the challenge, help me here.

I'm running a small tournament using this system for my mates stag do next week and i've made the list entries "9-15" since i really couldn't make a list better than 9.0 on v1.4.1

My list atm...(9.0)

Slaughtermaster, L4, Fencers Blades, Glittering Robes, Scroll, DBG, Heavens

Bruiser BSB w/ BoEF

Butcher w/ Scroll of Shielding

8 Guts w/ S. o Disc, Mus
9 Ogres w/ AHW and FC

4 MFC w/ Wailing Banner, HA and IF

6 Leaddies

2 single kitties

Ironblaster

Stonehorn

2396pts and 9.0 SCS.

I'm finding that anything i take out to "reduce the comp", leaves a real world hole in points that, when filled, puts me right back in the same situation.

If i drop the leaddies, then more MFC will rocket the score, Maneaters will do the same.

I could drop the leaddies and get say, Yhettees, but feel that the list becomes gimped then.

What are peoples thought and experiences with this system. I understand that comp can stop us having double MFC and double IB, but this feels like i can pick one of Leaddies, MFC, Maneaters in the list and thats all i get!

The Feeding Grounds / The "Core" Dilemma with Ogres
« on: Dec 07, 2012, 10:14:29 AM »
Hi,

One dilemma i'm having with ogres at the moment is my core. I pretty much exclusively play at 2400pts and as such need 600 worth of core.

Most of my lists utilise Ironguts in ne big unit. I never run horde but once characters are added there;s usually about 15 models in it. The problem is, my mates can get annoyed that "its a gut-star" and thus is a very tough unit to remove from the game and get points for!

I personally dont thik its a "gut-star" until the number of models hits 18 and it's deployed in horde...

However, i've also recently toyed with a true 18 strong horde of AHW bulls and liked that! but of course received the same complaints despite not having the S6.

So the problem then, is how to fill my core with a horse of ogres without crippling myself. If i have a unit of 9 bulls and a unit of 9 guts, then by the same they've reached combat and possibly took some casualties on the way, and by the time the opponent has struck, they've lost a few models and so their combat effectiveness is really diminished?

Is it a case of "stop whining mates" or have you found better ways of utilising your core without hordes?

As i'm playing a lot of games on UB lately, i'm onsidering a gnoblar army just to mess with their heads!

Played a game last night with what i initially thought wasn't a super strong list but wanted to try it.

Since i have a very shooty themed army, i wanted something that could charge straight up and smash.

I didn't have a slaughtermaster, butcher, hellheart, greedy fist, runemaw....not even a BSB!
But it did have a tyrnat, 2 units of 4 mournfang and double ironblaster...

I was against an Empire all mounted army.

He went first and conceeded on the start of his turn 3!

His stank would have killed an IB on his first turn if not for a misfire and i sacrificed my FB so that my IB's could shoot (and kill) his stank.

He called my list a cheeseball list and at the time i didn't think it was due to the lack of aforementioned toys. Basically, he calls my lists cheesey when i stand back and shoot with Leadbelchers and heavens magic so i thought id try something different!

I killed his STank with 2xIB and one unit of 4 MFC with the BoEF beat and over-ran his large unit of Reiksguard with an Arch Lector.

When his othe rbig units of knights failed their T3 long charge into my guts - he conceeded!

---

So - my dilemma. Looking back, double Ironblaster is cheesey and i haven't used it since i started playing ogres. However, with the recent addition of Skullcrushers and the upping of say, Demigryphs to T4, i dont think its so bad to have double ironblaster anymore?

He said double mournfang is cheesey...and i somewhat agree. But he ran double Demigryph in the previous game? Demi's have a 1+ save. MFC have a 2+/6++ for more pts! The impact hits are what make or break the MFC i feel

Magic never played a part as the charges can be so devasting.

My problem now lies in how the hell do i make a list that isn't considered cheesey? im running out of options? Leadbelchers - too cheesey...MFC too cheesey...Heavens master too cheesey...I have a Maneater list but im pretty sure they'll get called cheese too! My Ironguts? they're cheesey cause i have them in one unit but if i was to split the uinit of 14 into 2 of 7, they'd get cuts to ribbons without haveing anything to hit back?

edit: probably best to put my list here:

Tyrant
Firebelly

14 Guts

4 MFC
4 MFC
1 Kitty

Stonetusk
2 Ironblasters

The Feeding Grounds / How many Ogre lists do you have?
« on: Nov 05, 2012, 12:42:51 PM »
Hi,

Ip  play @2400pts and mainly against Wood Elves, Empire, Lizardmen and warriors of Chaos, but i try to build all comers lists. I was  wondering how many different "themes" you guys have in your lists?

For instance, i have a list that focusses heavily on shooting, with 2 units of leaddies, double ironblaster and a heavens mage! This list plays rather filthy and so i'd consider it a tourney only list.

I have my combat-a-go-go list, which involves a stonetusk, tyrant and 2 units of 4  mournfang where i just wanna charge up and smash and hope for the best.

Lastly i have my maneater list which has sniping poison ME's, GW scoutstrider ME's and a firebelly on a carpet. This one is for funsies as it scores the highest on the sweedish comp system

How do you theme or how many "lists" do you generally rotate with?

Hi guys,

After much stress of upgrading to an iPhone, realising i can now do better video batreps and mistakenly thinking it would be easier (fool me!), i've finally upped a Battle Report from my weekend game.

Warning: It's a 23 min vid that i had to split courtesy of not being able to upload longer than 15min fromt he iPhone (if anyone knows how to amend this i will love you forever and bless all your dice!!).

It's also "Ghettohammer". As in, unpainted board and random joy for scenery (wait till you see the "tower fo blood"

Part One can be found here: link
Part Two can be found here: link

Oh and also, i apologise in droves for the amount of times i say the phrase "slapped silly"...i had no idea...

Hope you enjoy. Please leave constructive critisism and bear in mind i'm new to this techno-way of reporting and kinks are being worked out!

Thanks

Adam

Hi Guys,

What do you think is the most underrated item available to us (BRB and Army book)?

I've only recently started using the Dragonbane Gem. Since every army now has the Banner of Eternal flame it just such a useful item to have since a SLaughtermaster or tyrant can literally tank an entire horde with it if they have the banner! better yets - see and vil of vaul in the centre....weep with joy!

As for banners, i really like the Banner fo Swiftness - people know we can move fast - but Ogres with MV7 really surprise people! Especially since everyone seemes to assume we have the banner fo Discipline on our Ironguts!

Building on assumptions, teh Wailing Banner is great for my Irongut block! Onec again, people either assume BoDisc or when it gets too large they anticipate the Runemaw (cause the interwebz says so!)...Realising they have to pass a terror check to charge you and vice versa is brilliant and also ensures that your low leadership ogres dont peg it when charged by a big gribley.

Lastly for now, Rock Eye for it's cost, its almost not fair! To be able to stand back with my list of leaddies and ironblasters and shoot for a few turns whilst figuring out which unit is weakest is an epic use of those * points!

So, what are your most underrated items that dont seem to be in every "net list"?

Hi Guys,

Managed to have a game down at the store today. Full pictures and report old school white dwarf style (as usual!) on the blog!

Tales of Conquest / High Elves Vs Ogres - 2400 - Watchtower
« on: May 01, 2012, 04:38:05 PM »
Hi guys,

I've upped a new BatRep to my blog. The high Elf list is a new "Lore of Magic" themed list i've been wanting to try for a while now and the Ogre list is an experimental list with Firebellies and Thundertusks ago-go!

Battle Rep can be found here

Hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to comment!

Hi Guys,

Fairly new to WHF (since April '11) and recently collected Ogres.

I've made 2400 list for each of my armies and to better appreciate and "get to know them" i've started a series of battles against each other, playing through the 6 scenarios in the BRB.

The first, Battleline, has now been updated on my blog.

Ive not reposted here to save space and so i can post this smaller message on multiple forums!

Please let me know your thoughts though!

Hi guys, My LGG tends to play at 1.5-2k depending on the person and i'll be playing ogres @1.5 for the first time this weekend. I don't like listtailoring and find ogres incredibly fun to lose with so i'm not too fussed about being "supah-competetive" - this attitude stems from facing the tough armies my opponents often field!

I most commonly play against Demons, Warriors, Skaven, Lizzies and soon to be Empire.

This weekend, one of my mates will be proxying a Dark Elf army..../joy...

Either way:

The List

L2 Firebelly w/ Hellheart - 205
Bruiser BSB w/ Giantbreaker, HA and GW - 170

7 Ironguts w/FC and Banner of Discipline - 346
10 Trappers - 50

6 Leadbelchers - 258
3 Maneaters w/ HA, GW, Standard with Gleaming Pennant (Swiftstride, Stubborn) - 210***
Gorger - (*)

Ironblaster -(*)

Total - 1500

Now the option is to swap the 3 Maneaters for 3 Mournfang Cav w/ HA and IF's - 210

Tactics
Firebelly -Fire is such a good lore at this points level and any of the 2 spells can be very useful in any battle:
*) Fireball - Obvious use to soften up units from range - good synergy with the Leadbelchers and Ironblaster or just for the +3 to cast the next spell at that unit!
1) Fire Cloak - Useful for when i expect a multiround combat, this can turn the tide if it gets off (and i survive round 1)
2) Flaming sword - really hoping for this one on the leadbelchers! goodbye regen model!
3) Burning head - probably the worst but could be useful against low Ld units
4) Piercing bolts - incredible for hordes - something we will struggle with!
5) Flame cage - great for slowing units so we can choose who to fight!
6) Flame Storm - not bad if not innacurate!

BSB is there for the re-roll but can possibly hold his own - couldn't afford anything better for him!

Ironguts will house the BSB and FB and should pack enough punch to put the hurting on any unit in the game! I've had several slog fests with these against DoC and their damn ward save so the FB's presence and often forgotten flame breath's auto-hits will help out here!

Trappers will guard the Leadbelchers...who will do what they do by shooting chunks out of them! I really rate these and they have been the star of nearly every ogre battle i've had yet!

Maneaters - i usually run double pistols with sniper poison but wanted to try something different - these are set up to get the devastating ogre charge off, hopefully withstand a few hits and then smash back!! The can potentially be swapped out of the list for the mournfangs who will offer em outmanouvring possibilities! And survive long maybe? Whats your thoughts?

Gorger - I've tried once and was impressed and so included him more to see what he can do!

IB - does what and IB does! (flaming sword here for fun!)

---

So, what do you think? Maneaters or mournfang in this list?

The Butcher's Cauldron / Ogre Leadbelchers (1st attempt at OK)
« on: Oct 27, 2011, 03:56:32 PM »
Hi Guys,

I've finished painting my first unit of ogres (Leadbelchers) and thought i'd share.

There's loads of photos of them step by step on the blog, but i thought i'd share the one that looks cool! I forgot to turn the flash off on the camera so it's lit up really cool as if he's firing it!

Let me know what you think....be nice!

19
So i'll liklely be playng WoC, lizzies and Skaven and DE in the future but its designed as an all comers friendly army! I just want to use the units i think are cool!

L4 Slaughtermaster w/Enchanted Shield and Gnoblar thiefstone - 335
Brusier BSB w/ HA, IF and Fencers Blades and Rock Eye - 153

5 Bulls w/ FC and GL-O and Additional Hand Weapons - 190
5 IronGuts w/ GC and GL-O and Banner of Discipline - 265
10 Gnoblar Trappers - 50

3 Leadbelchers - 129
1x Sabertusk - *
3 Maneaters w/ Brace of Pistols on all (Scout and Snipe) - 186

Ironblaster - *

Total - 1499

I really like the IB and LB models and really want to use them. The ST is just a redirector and an extra unit to plop down before more important things in deployment.

I like the idea of the gnoblar thiefstone as nearly everyone takes the talisman of preservation these days and the opportunity to rob them of it, provides me the potential for a good belly laugh!

I reckon the SM goes in the bulls and the Bruiser in the Guts.

I wish i could find room for some Mournfang Cavalry but they'll be there @2000 for sure!
