The Feeding Grounds / leadbelcher attacks - newbie question
« on: Jan 28, 2006, 09:36:05 AM »
I'm new to warhammer - collecting and painting the ogres for my first army.

I'm a little hazy on how the leadbelchers work, and the army book and the BRB aren't helping me much.

can someone bullet point me a list of what happens in what order if I want my ladblechers to fire?

thanks in advance,

Wildcard.

I'm going with slate as well - you can get some really nice effects from stacks.  Also, check for the bonsai dept of a garden centre - they often have small pebbles and the like that can add a lot to your basing.

also, check for "fake" flowers - ferns and bullrushes especially as these can make excellent plants - more height than static grass and fairly easy to work with.

I'd try and fing some points for dispel scrolls (1 for each butcher)

Hi guys, I want to mod one of my rhinox cavalry guys by having an impaled human on one of the tusks (right through the middle!).

Can anyone suggest a possible candidate figure for this mutilation?  I'm new to this lark (only got into warhammer in last few months when I started running a gaming club) so don't know much about the possibilities.

I was thinking about doing it with a drill bit/screwdriver to create the messy wound - but can anyone offer advice on this as well?

maybe a skeleton would be better?

thanks for the response :).  I have a couple more questions however:

so, if I want to swap things around for my next battle, I've got to buy + assemble + paint more models with alternative weaponary/armour/items?

e.g. I've got to have enough bull models without weapon upgrades to swap out with others if  want to change tactics for next game?

e.g. I've got to have 1 tyrant with tenderiser and have also 1 tyrant with thunderhammer?

I'm new to warhammer and am just building up my first army (ogres, of course!)

I have a question about the models:

do I have to assemble models that accuratly reflect the weapon choices in my army list?

e.g. do I have to put ironfists on all the units using them and NEVER on another model?

Do I have to try and model/customise magical items in the same way?
What about armour?

What about using a model to represent another?

e.g. using  a hunter model as my tyrant?

any help you could give this newbie would be appreciated! :)

Armies of the Kingdoms / New to OK - how's this army list?
« on: Jan 22, 2006, 07:25:58 AM »
thanks for the input - I think I'll make some of those changes now

I'll drop the bellower from the IG unit
I'll drop the weapon upgrade from the unit of bulls without the butcher and that'll give me 26 points

For that, I think I'll have.....

wyrdstone necklace + luck gnobblar for the tyrant

that's back to 1,999 points

how's it now?

UPDATE!!!

I got the points wrong in my list (never trust another man's spreadsheet!)

I've had to do some re-working with the units and I've taken into account some of the other advice I've been given so far - here's the new (and correct) breakdown of my first-ever army - any advice you can give would be invaluable! :)

1 unit of 3 bulls + ironfists
joined by a butcher with dispel scroll and bangstick

1 unit of 3 bulls + ironfists
joined by a butcher with dispel scroll and skullmantle

1 unit of 3 bulls + ironfists

1 unit of 7 ironguts + bellower + standard bearer
joined by a tyrant (army general) + fist of laurels + tenderiser

1 unit of 8 gnobblar trappers

1 unit of 2 leadbelchers + bellower

1 unit of 2 leadbelchers + bellower

1 gorger

1 unit of 2 rhinox riders + bull rhinox

total cost: 1,999 points

how's it looking?

1 unit of 7 ironguts + bellower + standard bearer
+1 tyrant with fist of laurels and tenderiser + lookout gnobblar (spare points)

1 unit of 8 gnobblar trappers

1 unit of 2 leadbelchers

1 unit of 2 leadbelchers

1 unit of 3 rhinox riders with ironfists + heavy armour +bellower

total cost: 1,999 points

how's that?

lots of excellent advice there from everyone.

I was a bit worried about the panic effects of kills on MSU (lose 1 and that's it) - hence the slightly bigger size.

I'll run through the figures again and post the modified list soon.

the thought of that third rider is making me drool!

thanks everyone for you help to this newbie so far :)

thanks for the advice

If I scrub the maneaters for a gorger, would I be leaving my flanks a little exposed?

I was putting in the mannies as a flank-defense unit.

I'll reconfigure my list and repost later

thanks so far - keep 'em coming!

sounds like a sane idea - but where could I find the 70+ points?

I guess I could scrap 1 of the maneaters - but I hate the thought of leaving myself at 1981 points spent - any ideas where the rest could go?

any suggestions welcome! :)

The Feeding Grounds / Rhinox Riders
« on: Jan 18, 2006, 08:37:26 PM »
yes they are a bit

white dwarf lists a point cost of 100 points/model - but has a rhinox on a 50x50 base with a unit strength of 4

can upgrade to a bull rhinox for +45 points that has a chariot base and has a unit strength of 6 - only this version has terror.

If you want to upgrade the rhinox, you have to upgrade a thunderlord's first.

other than that - pretty much identical.

Hi all,

I'm new to playing warhammer.  I've been painting the minis for a good while and have finally decided to step into the battle as well.  I've been thinking about going with this for a 2,000 point army, and I'd really appreciate some feedback.

This is an all-purpose army - I'll swap out fun units for particular matchups - but this is just to have some fun with!

1 unit of 5 bulls with ironfists + bellower
+1 butcher with dispel scroll and bangstick

1 unit of 5 bulls with ironfists + bellower
+1 butcher with 2 dispel scrolls

1 unit of 7 ironguts + bellower + standard bearer
+1 bruiser (army general) + heavy armour, tenderiser, fist of laurels

1 unit of 11 gnobblar trappers +1 brave

1 unit of 2 leadbelchers

1 unit of 2 leadbelchers

1 unit of 2 maneaters + cathayan swords + heavy armour

1 unit of 2 rhinox riders (1 thunderlord), +bellower, + heavy armour, +ironfists

total points: 1,999

how's this look?
