Thinling Realms / Ranged VS VC
« on: Dec 13, 2012, 07:04:08 PM »
So, I was wondering how everyone felt about using ranged against Vampire counts. I've played one game as my ogres using a leadbelcher heavy army and I spanked the VCs but I feel thats just because he got a poor mismatch. He was using blood knights as his main fighting block and they got shot to death before they even reached me. In general how do other armys fair in the shooting phase against vampire counts?

3
Oh god I just got my three island of blood high elf sets in (I bought three and a battle box for my high elf army) The island of blood models are SO nice looking and such a good deal. I got three sets for 33 bucks (just the high elves and the bases) That means 30 sword masters 30 SEXY looking sea guard three mages, three griffon princes (which I am gonna convert to demigraph knights) and 15 very nice cavalry models. I am so stoked you guys =)

4
First, I have never seen a tournament that allows Teclis.  For that matter, the average local league bans him as well.  For that matter, if one of my HE-playing friends wants a pick-up game, I won't play them if they're running Teclis and certain lores.  There's a difference between controlling a phase, dominating a phase, and turning a phase into pointless waste of time when you should just pick up your models and leave.  Magic is already a big game changer, and Teclis ability to spam the most over-powered of spells with complete immunity drains any kind of enjoyment from a game.  If I hadn't already been established in Fantasy Warhammer, the first time I faced Teclis literally would have convinced me to quite the game; he's that disgustingly broken.

Yeah, none of my play group will play me if I field a teclis, however the local tournament doesn't currently have a ban on him (We tried to argue that it should but they don't want to listen) So for the first couple of tournaments until they ban him I might have to field him.  Right now all I need is some eagles. They seem really good. I was thinking of making a list that focuses around the shooting phase. A high elf wizard for curse of arrows and a fire for flaming sword of rhiun might be fun.

5
Thanks for the info! I posted my list to ulthuan first honestly. I just wanted to see what my ogre bros' had to say about it. I am totaly going to get some eagles they are like, 50 points and just look badass.

6
I bought three island of blood starters to get my first army going. I can use some minor proxys because my current player pool doesnt really care. With the sets I have this is the list I slaped together. I wanted a caster heavy list that had the sword masters in it (They seem SO GOOD)

Archmage lore of lifelevel 4 with annulian crystal and ring of fury 340

Mage of beasts level 2 with silver wand 145

10 sea gaurd with musician 130

20 sea guard with full command and shields 285

15 sword masters of hoeth with command 250

15 sword masters of hoeth with command 250

I figured I would use the 10 seaguard block as a bunker for my casters, and I would use my casters to and then smash them with my sword masters. What do you guys think?

The Feeding Grounds / Re: Yhetee or Nhotee?
« on: Nov 26, 2012, 12:08:54 AM »
Well Yhetees aren't bad. The main issue is that there's just better picks that do the same thing.  If you know you are going to be seeing someone with a cheesed out ethereal list they can be good but other then that I am not a big fan.  The main problem with them is that everyone packs a flaming banner somewhere because flaming also removes regen.  You also don't get the ogre charge bonus witch removes some of their attacks.

For around the same points (6 more points I think) You get maneaters, who have a better statline and 2 abilities. If you are looking for a fast moving unit maneaters are overall better. You can pick swiftstride with them or scout or even both.  You are given the option for a magic banner also which is nice.

Mournfangs are one of our hardest hitting meanest models we can field. Even if you are worried about bad armor rolls a couple of these bad boys will clobber just about anything on the charge.

My opinion on the matter: Yhetees aren't bad. But they aren't very good either they are a very situational meta-game pick.

The Feeding Grounds / Re: How to use gorgers with skrag?!
« on: Sep 21, 2012, 08:50:46 PM »
So, I just made my list and had my fun game against my friends vampires. It was pretty brutal. Skrag beat some faces in pretty hard. I'll post the battle report in a bit!

The Feeding Grounds / How to use gorgers with skrag?!
« on: Sep 10, 2012, 07:31:46 PM »
So I am making a 2000 point skrag gorger list to match up against my friends 2k point all wight no vampire list.
My question is, with skrag, I can take gorgers in packs of 2. It still seems like they wont do much but how would I go about making that effective? I plan on taking tons of gorgers and a block of ogre bulls to put skrag in. Has anyone on here tried something so silly? How did you make it work?

The Feeding Grounds / is one cannon worth it?
« on: Aug 07, 2012, 11:13:15 PM »
Alright, so I have been playing at 2400 lately and been winning alot. I still want to cut some fat and I have noticed the classic all time ogre staple, the ironblaster has been doing just about nothing.

I have 1 ironblaster model and it just doesn't seem to stack up. I shoot something (normally a monster or something), maybe I hit it, maybe I wound it, then maybe I deal enough wounds to put it down. I feel like for 170 points maybe I could take something like a decked out brusier, or firebelly.

What do you guys feel about it? Should ironblasters be an always choice even with only one? I think not but I havent played against tons of different armies yet.

The Feeding Grounds / is high points games scary for you?
« on: Jul 30, 2012, 01:42:00 AM »
So, I have a 2400 point tourny coming up and I've played a few practice games with my friends... Its terryfying! As an ogre player I just don't feel comfortable at this point value. My friend plays 2 terrorgeists and decked out vampire lord, and everyone can take just tons of scary stuff. What do we have at this point range which is awesome and scary?

Armies of the Kingdoms / 2400 pt tourny next month!
« on: Jul 19, 2012, 11:25:12 PM »
So last month was my first tourny and I got second place! Anyways, so this is my list for 2400 points. I currently don't own any mournfang (though I am about 90% sure I will before the tourny) This is what I got so far. (also, I have the thundertusk not stonehorn model and they most likely will not let my proxy)

lords
Slaughtermaster with gruts sickle,, level 4 death caster    charmed shield      340

Heroes
Brusier BSB heavy armor and great weapon (runemaw banner)            145
Butcher level 1 lore of the great maw dispell scroll, enchanted shield              130

CORE
Ironguts. 9 with champion and muscian (fielded with bsb)      398
Ogres 8 with full command and ironfists (fielded with caster)      286
Ogres 8 with full command and ironfists    (fielded with caster)   286

special
Maneaters 6 with command and magic banner ( standard of discapline) Scout stubborn, first rank of 3 equiped with additonal handweapons.                           351
Sabertusk                                       21
Sabertusk                                       21

Rare
Ironblaster                              170
Thundertusk                              250

                              Total:      2398

I play to field the ogres in three ranks of three and the ironguts in 2 ranks of 5. The maneaters are going to backhack them while the ogre buses hold them up. I think I need a way to get stubborn on some stuff more reliable though. What do you all think?

The Feeding Grounds / big sabertusk units... with hunters?!
« on: Jul 17, 2012, 09:39:55 PM »
So, I was looking at the book, and you can take sabertusks in a unit of 10. Sabertusks costs 21 points, have 4 weapon skill and 4 ini. They just seem really good.

Anyways, so what about taking a unit of ten of these badboys and a hunter? It seems like such a good idea on paper. What could go wrong amirite?

The Feeding Grounds / Re: What Lores works for you?
« on: Jul 16, 2012, 11:14:49 PM »
Caress of Laniph is the minus-strength spell.  Fate of Bjuna is minus-toughness, wounds on a 2+, no boosted range, and is stupid if he survives.  Which kinda sucks, cuz then he's immune to psychology and ignores fear :D

whoops, got the names wrong lol.

I use a decked out level 4 death caster with gruts sickle. Soulblight is basicly two of our buffs rolled into one spell, and the character nuking is great. Spirit leech (the leadership nuke) and Fate of Bajuna (The strength nuke) can both be extended to 24 inches at a 10, and 12 respectively. With a +6 to cast that is really easy to get off. I normally use my death caster and a level 1 maw caster for our signature or trollguts.

Armies of the Kingdoms / first tounry this weekend! 1600pts!
« on: Jul 11, 2012, 11:37:25 PM »
howzit going folks! So I got my first tourny this weekend (apperntly its a pretty friendly atmosphere)

I am of course going to play some ogres! This is my first list tell me what you think!

Lords
Slaughermaster LvL4 of death. Gruts sickle, greedyfist-380

heroes
Butcher of maw lvl 1 dispell scroll-125
Brusier BSB with runemaw great weapon and heavy armor- 145

core
13 ogres, ironfists and full command- 446
6 Ironguts full command- 288

Special
Saber tusk-21
Saber Tusk-21

Rare
Ironblaster-170

I've played and won two games with this list against VCs. I love the level 4 caster with gruts he totaly dominated the magic phase. I don't know how I feel about greedy fist though it seems like a heavy points sink. Also, base ogres do a lot of work and I really like them but I feel like 6 ironguts just isn't enough. What do you guys think Also, I don't have any mournfang =/

The Feeding Grounds / Re: scout sniper maneaters?!
« on: May 04, 2012, 07:41:26 PM »
pistols are quick to fire, so you can even stand and shoot if there only an inch away, but I don't think you can snipe.

The Feeding Grounds / scout sniper maneaters?!
« on: May 01, 2012, 11:45:52 PM »
so, I see all the "standard" maneater loadouts and builds and I almost never see scout/sniper maneaters

It seems like it would be amazing and killing an important caster early game and then follow up by being pretty solid in melee.

you scout them in close to an enemy caster and blow him away, stand and shoot against the inevetiable charge and do good damage with your unit. you can even give the back row some great weapons. that way your front row get 5 attacks each from the duel pistols, and your back row clobbers things

I always see "snipe/poison" but with the long range penalty, snipe cost, and multi shot, your hitting on a 6 only I figure sense most casters have toughness 3 with only 2 to 3 wounds to start with, hitting on a 4 and wounding on a 3 is pretty damned good.  you combine that with the general "shock and awe" factor of ogres scouting in and I feel like you get the best of both "scout/stubborn" and "snipe/poison"

What does everyone else think? has anyone tried it? I plan on trying it on a decked out unit of 6 maneaters

Thinling Realms / "badass" tier lists!
« on: Apr 29, 2012, 04:20:32 PM »
I wanna hear everyones opinion on what armys are "the most badass" Based on models, lore, special characters ,and special rules this is my list!

1. Bretonia: High fantasy to the truest form, badass knights, pegasai, quests for the grail, and the lady of the lake.  a full army of these guys painted up is stunning. These guys are more badass then most people can understand.
2. Ogres: Big, bad, and mean as hell ogres are a no-sillyness brutal army. Cool looking models and very unique from the other armys in both play and game mechanics.
3. Tomb Kings: I don't know much about their lore or theme but the models are stunning to say the least. A army of these guys painted well would be almost as intimidating as the brets.
4. Wood elves: I hate elfs, I hate them with a passion in every fantasy setting. However the models are really cool looking so I gotta give them mad props
5. Dwarfs: They're dwarfs what else can I say? Little ass kickers and a staple in fantasy.
6. everyone else: all the others just leave kinda of a "meh" or a "bleh" taste in my mouth. But thats just me =)

The Feeding Grounds / Re: The Tyrant

I find that gutmaw is pretty good on him if your trying to kill other characters. You will almost always be striking after their own characters so you will almost always be healing wounds with it, and you get the heavy armor from it.
