The Feeding Grounds / Re: How can i kill this guy?
« on: Apr 18, 2012, 01:28:14 AM »
Well Ive lost...  :(
we got this house rule scenario that was... kill the other general.

on top of that we got the diagonal deployement where you place all your army then the other places his, he got 3 ones out of 5 drops so he had 3 things in reserve, which came turn 1 flanking my army from the start.

Ive managed a wound on the Master with 18 shots but by turn 3, charge from both side, after many unsuccessful 2nd wound, he overran me. Not easy when you need to see 2 ones in a row.

I had this wh40k feeling were the game hasn't started and you know the result.

Thanks for all the replies, I wanted to ignore it but could not hehe.

The Feeding Grounds / How can i kill this guy?

Hi we have a little tournemant going on. This is my list, cant change it

Firebelly, General, Level 2 Upgrade
+  Dispell Scroll
+  Lore of Fire
- - - > 180 Points

6 Ogres, Handweapon & Ironfist, Standardbearer
- - - > 202 Points

4 Leadbelchers, Musician
- - - > 182 Points

2 Mournfang Cavalry, Heavy Armour, Ironfist, Musician, Standardbearer
+  Gleaming Pennant
- - - > 165 Points

1 Sabretusks
- - - > 21 Points

And ill be playing the mighty DE next week. So my question. How to kill this hero (Master) (which was made against me due to a lot of prior victories from the ogres)

Its good vs shooting fire and that pendant is nullifying the fact that I need Strength to go through is 1+ armor saves

Im pretty sure it will be riding alone all around the map, flanking me, wining combat and failing ld test.

Thx!
***************  1 Hero  ***************
Master, General
+  Lance, Heavy Armour, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak
+  Dark Steed
+  Potion of Foolhardiness, Pendant of Khaeleth, Dragonhelm
- - - > 156 Points

24 Dark Elf Warriors, Musician, Standardbearer
+  Banner of Murder
- - - > 178 Points

23 Dark Elf Warriors, Musician, Standardbearer
+  Standard of Discipline
- - - > 162 Points

5 Dark Riders, Repeater Crossbows, Musician
- - - > 117 Points

8 Shades, Add. Handweapons
- - - > 136 Points

The Feeding Grounds / Re: Whos using the thundertusk and stonehorn?
« on: Apr 08, 2012, 10:55:40 PM »
In my group there are not a lot of warmachines (VC, VC, WE, HE, OnG, DE and SK)

I'm really tempted of trying one big beast, just don't know which one yet.

The damage output the Ogres have is already high enough, the thundertusk could be fun to try, between a group of ogres and ironguts, but damn visually the stonehorn is the piece that got me into Ogres.

hey thx guys for the help, we should move this topic to battle reports section hehe

@Daniel: i went with my painted stuff since I don't like to paint glued model because im shaking way too much lol (another good reason im an ogre player) Still this army is well balance.

I won this 1st match easily having only is necro alive, and having 4 ogres, 3 lb and the firebelly still pursuing.

4 things to notice;

- I suffer 3 miscast; overall results; 2 wounds on firebelly and 1 lb killed. All those with using 4 dices each time whoa lucky on this one.
- The ghouls with re roll to hit charged my mournfangs 13 inches away... 9 wounding hits, 2+ armor save... 5 ones! wow i didn't expect this.
- The crypt horror didn't stand a changes vs my 2 spells: fireball and flaming sword of ruin. But still with T5, it took me a while to grind them. (other VC player has 6 of those...)
-The vampire was rolling really low on his power dice, not able to buff and raise is army, they are so dependent of magic.

For me the new vampires are no threat at low point games, having the firebelly is safe enough for many situations, ogres are more than enough for any unbuff core they have.

Next opponent still unknown, will update and ask for help once I have the info.
Thanks again.

So 6 of us have submitted our lists for a mini tournament.
Im bringing my Ogres, we have 2 VC, 1 skaven, 1 DE and 1 HE

So I was looking for some strategy towards some lists. Before my matches I would like to post the list of the opponent for you guys to help me fight to best way possible since im pretty up green (10 games) with Warhammer Fantasy.

To start here is my list:

Firebelly, General, Level 2 Upgrade
+  Dispell Scroll
+  Lore of Fire
- - - > 180 Points

6 Ogres, Handweapon & Ironfist, Standardbearer
- - - > 202 Points

4 Leadbelchers, Musician
- - - > 182 Points

2 Mournfang Cavalry, Heavy Armour, Ironfist, Musician, Standardbearer
+  Gleaming Pennant
- - - > 165 Points

1 Sabretusks
- - - > 21 Points

Total Points Ogre Kingdoms : 750

My goal is to have the firebelly in the Leadbelcher unit, that is why I added a 4th LB (for panic) by trimming a lot of other stuff.
the mournfangs will charge any strength 3 units

So my first game will be against a VC player, tomorrow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
here is the list:

VC list
Necromancer Lord with Channeling Staff – 180
(Lore of Vampires)

20 Zombies with standard and musician – 70
15 Ghouls – 150

18 Grave Guard with standard, heavy weapons and musician – 236
3 Crypt Horrors – 114

Total = 750

So I would like to know what:

to charge with mournefangs (ghoul?)
to fireball (crypt?)
to shoot (graves?)
to be afraid off hehe
Is necromancer lord a level 3?

Thank you guys!   :D

Ah ive forget to mention that in the campaign (warband type)  the hero can go up to 150pts and that the min requirement is half for campaign but i dont like this rule.

Yeah fireball is pretty much the key to victory at this low point battles!

Armies of the Kingdoms / First 4 games were a blast! (500points)
« on: Feb 16, 2012, 04:33:22 PM »
Hi there meat eaters! I wanted to share my first 4 games in the universe of warhammer fantasy.

We are getting ready to do a campaign scenario which conquering territories will give you more points.

It starts at 500 points, and having a good mix between veteran and newbies (including me) we started playing around a few games to check out builds and the rules.

So far 2 X 1v1 and 2 X 2v2: all wins!

I have been reading a lot on the forums to help and and thanks for that!

1st two game were against the same opponent who is a veteran player, has ogres but plays Vampire Counts.

1st game
My list
Firebelly XHW Potion of Speed (in LB)
6 Ogre IF SB Bellower
3 LeadBelchers Bellower
1 Sabertusk

He had (around that number)
Vampire
20 Skeleton
15 Zombie
4 Dire Wolves
2 Crypt Horror

He was showing me some strategy and helping me out with positioning but what happen was a big miscast on his end and the game was over, we kept playing has if the vampire was still alive instead of behind suck into the void. Fireball is awesome but having one spell, strategy wise, is weird.

2nd game
My list
Firebelly XHW Potion of Speed
6 Ogre IF SB
3 LeadBelchers
2 Sabertusk

He had (around that number)
Vampire (2 spells)
15 Skeleton
10 Zombie
4 Dire Wolves
3 Crypt Horror

Solid fight, kill my Leadbelcher and firebelly and was running away from my Ogres. Did a nasty 12 on 2d6 fireball on his crypt horror doing 7 wounds. Last turn, made a long ogre charge onto is walking backward units of skellies and vampire because he was winning, and being a veteran, wanted to teach me a lessons, but wiped him.

3rd game

we decided to play a 2v2 500points each (not sure of numbers)

My list
Firebelly XHW Potion of Speed (in LB)
6 Ogre IF SB
3 LeadBelchers
2 Sabertusk

playing with skaven

1 chieftain
1 engineer
2 X 20 rats
2 rat ogres
1 fire mortar thing

against

Dark Elves
1 Caster
20 Crossbowman
25 Spearman

and

Orc and Goblins

Orc Boss
15 black orcs
20 Orc
30 Goblins

Well, my leadbelcher and firebelly scared the crossbowman and the wizard of the table shooting phase 1 and the game was done already, but kept playing to grasp the rule. Noticed that 2 spells (having a rat caster) made the magic phase fun. (3 2d6 fireball : 10 10 12 dice.) yep i have a reputation now.

4th game

Lastly yesterday we played another 2v2, tried something different:

My list
Firebelly XHW Ruby ring of ruin
5 Ogre IF SB
2 Mournfang IF HA
2 Sabertusk

Dark Elves
Caster
12 Crossbowman
25 Spearman
10 shades

VS

Orc and Goblins

Orc Boss
12 black orcs
20 Orc
20 Night Goblins (2 fanatic)

Necro (2 spells)
30 skeleton
15 Skeleton
12 Zombie
3 Vargoyle

Really tough game on the 1st few turns, low magic pool, bad shotting from ally, and the Vargoyle, they move so far (im pretty afraid of those guys since he face them backyard (frenzy) until he wants to charge).
Also the vampire had the magic item that do like a fireball but make you take a panic test and if you move, you get hit. We dispelled that all the time making is necro adding more undeads.

Popped the fanatics on turn 1 with a sabertusk. The shades wiped the Black orc easily and the mournfang were doing the long path to get to the necro. They had put a lot of cover in the middle to make sure my Dark Elf ally wouldn't be a treat in the shooting phase. They mass charged my 5 ogre with my belly meaning i could not cast spells anymore, took 2 turns to kill them making the game switching in our favor once the mournfang and the dark elf close onto the necro bunker. Dark elf ally didn't lose one unit of the game.

Having 2 spells with the Ruby ring didn't work as excepted as I was trying to get the lore of fire attribute but could not make it work. The mournfangs hits like a ton of brick but took 3 turn to get there and the sabertusks are just pure gold. Wish I had a bellower in the ogres since I lost twice to equal combat rez.

So thanks to have read my long bla bla about my new experience in warhammer. Next game will be 1v1 against the dark elf, testing out new stuff.

So which build should I bring, or do you have any build to suggest. Also keep in mind that this army will grow but gradually so i don't know which route (mournfangs or belcher) is the best way to go. Also the other vampire player is testing the ethereal cavalry and it is stressing me out a little because i don't have a 5 points magic item on the belly.

The Feeding Grounds / Re: Low points games...Still a problem!
« on: Sep 26, 2011, 10:10:26 PM »
Im struggling to build my escalation league army that is starting at 400pts

at this level i am not even taking a hero (dont need to)

Im going for either

6 Ogres - IF & bellower & Standard (212)
3 Leadbelchers - Bellower (139) or 2 Mournfang Cavalry - IF HA (140)
1 Sabertusk (21)
10 Gnoblar (25)

Im wondering if the Ironguts would be a better choice

Like

5 Ironguts
2 mournfang/leadbelcher
1 sabertusk

At 1000pts I would take either slaughtermaster (its really tough)or BSB + firebelly
pick one special choise (mourn, belcher or maneater, and use saber or gnoblar to fill the rest)

You you use the item to reroll fail LD, that cost 5 pts once per game. Sorry i dont remember the exact name, for the firebelly?

Also, would you field mournfangs at the low point cost game?

Armies of the Kingdoms / Help for escalation league... 400pts ouch
« on: Sep 12, 2011, 09:44:12 PM »
Hi,

I've been looking around for build that are made for escalation league. We are starting at 400points, which, for ogres, is really hard to manage. When you win, you get more points after so it might end up behing uneven at one point which make winning early, really necessary

No need for heroes if you dont want to (that can be maximum 150 points)
We will keep the units we start with, so no change, just update
Minimum 100 points for Core and the rest is pretty much up to us.

so I would like to know what you guys think

Im pretty much sold on Mournfang Cavalry so Im trying to squeeze it in
I also like the firebelly

So far i have 2 builds but im looking foward to see more

6X Ogres IF full command       222
2 Mournfang Heavy armor IF  140
2 X 1 Sabertusks                    42
404

or

Firebelly               120
3X Ogres IF          96
3X Ironguts          129
2 X 1 Sabertusks  42
387

I own battalion and firebelly so far. Will pick up mournfang ifi can manage to squeeze them in.
Should i order my sabertusks or start without them?
Thanks in advance for all the feedback
