So you guys really think it would be better to leave the MFC at home?  Even though they are arguably the 2nd best MCav in the game?

Yes I do, because with the new WoC book the good targets like lots of marauders are not that common anymore. And the chimeras and other fast moving units are trimming down good charge oppertunities.

I would agree with most of thhe Hellheart will be very hit-or-miss - if you can get a good miscast result (read: Power Drain or Dimensional Cascade), it might swing that game, but the odds on that aren't great.

Yes but it is a threat the opponent will not sniff at and laugh off, if his game is magic heavy or has a spellcaster general like a Nurgle DP who usually joins the fray. A slight chance is a slight chance...

You're not choosing between IGs and Leadies - you're taking both. Leadbelchers will pelt the foot troops, clean out any pesky chaff, and help the Ironblasters threaten the monsters (especially with a Flaming Sword of Rhuin thrown in for spice), and then the IGs will take on the tin cans.

The key takeaway here is that you're going to need to be multi-dimensional to really hang with Chaos - just running a "RAWR SMASH!" list won't work, because they're better at it than Ogres are.

Indeed!

There are builds in our book that can do in-ya-face well but Deathstar guts and allocation forcing chars in horde is easy to divert, and is quite a juicy target for stuff like good old Purple Sun. And Warriors have more options for a ground n' pound match, which they will win most of the time.

I tend to play my Ogres vs WoC like I use to play my Empire - remove the movement dictators with fire power, and use my own movement dictators to full effect. Chimeras and better chariots have made it harder, but we have access to firebellies, super cheap chaff and drops, and what I have found crucial -> Leadbelchers, one of the most flexible shooters in the game.

Of course Ironguts pumped up with great offensive Maw magic ain't too shabby either. ;)

We have a solid book, theirs blows ours out of the water.

No, it is just that they have one over-effective build and that is it (I am sure there are others but this is the most common).

Act nasty in return and load up on hellheart, cannons, chaff, and allocation lord/heroes with defense and CoC.

Personally I would use Grut's on a SM (getting off spells on +6/7 helps), Hellheart on a FB (thy need fireball too), and leave regular Ogres, Mournfangs, and any big gribbley at home. Load up on Ironguts, Maneaters, cats, a few gnoblar drops, characters, cannons, and small LB units to remove his chaff.

Str5 is not all that if you allocate against defensively tooled up Ogre heroes and lords.

Ignore regular grey shades if you ask me and go with granite instead like Skaven Dinge (I think that is the name) as base, and work yourself up from there.

My Stonehorn:

Yeah I saw that it might come in play from time to time, but have you seen the item picked in a lot of all comers list???

Only when we had a lot of VC players in our club.

My firebelly has tasted it twice with hilarious results.

I don't know. I'm always wary of reviews that begin with 'I play Comped and we don't allow Special Characters' since it's a specific environment that creates entirely new values.

Thanks for posting this so I didn't waste my time reading a review from a "respected" HE player, who most likely miss his cheese tray instead of looking at it objectively.

You pay through the nose for that minor premium  It will look nice as part of your collection, but it really has no place in a competitive HE list at all.

And that's the issue it seems because if it was all about the HE Optimus Prime builds, roughly 25% of most army books would not need models or be mentioned at all, which of course is not only way to play, discuss, or build.

Thankfully!

Here is a good starting point.  I look forward to your results.

Do you want a frame with that or not?

High toughness needs Ironguts a plenty as well as maximum nr of cats to stall him and dictate movement.

Shooting is somewhat pointless, though Ironblasters have lots of targets in that army.

Hellheart, allocation and runemaw are also nice.

Fair enough, but I do want to dispel one serious myth that the HE community has been floating around the intertubes, namely that White Lions are somehow worse now than before.

You really didn't need to post all of that because anyone with some slight understanding of the game agrees with you on this point. Still your Skycutter "hate" is somewhat exaggerated because I can still see some uses for the thing even if you have a lot of alternatives for the points.

Also where are the pictures of your fat ass you promised? I have loaded up photoshop...

Until I play it more, I really can't give a true opinion.

Which is why I was on your tail in the first place. ;)

You really should let the steam blow out and look at the stuff again, especially Teclis. The book is solid and on par with the other 8th ed. books (well except TK which is weaker, and OK, which is stronger - though a solid number of games with the new HE book is needed to adress on what exact level they are at) by reading it anyway.

I do however see use for most units, including the Skycutter - which I think is the new book's strength. They moved some units to places were they needed to be, adjusted some corny rules, and added a better point value to most things. The banner is sick but I do not believe it will be as solid in actual gameplay as many suggest.

Come on Lizzies, you are supposed to be next!

I only play with friends so not bothered about all the tournament, super-competitive nonsense. Both models were a blast to build. Just need to base them then can undercoat, paint and play.

I wish more posts were like this. :)
